TTM Denial by Jack Nicklaus

This is just an FYI for those of you that collect TTM autographs. Took about 50 days and I sent in care of his Golden Bear Enterprises. Included nice note and return SASE and 81 Donruss card for my signed rookie collection. Got back today in my SASE but card was NOT signed, just returned. Oh well, at least I got the card back. I will be resending with a donation check (bribe) made out to the Golf Hall of Fame or if I can find it on the web, to one of his favored charities if he has one.

  • That sucks...how are you going to communicate that you donated to one of his charities...or are you just sending him the check made out to them?

Jack can be less than cordial often.
  • This thread has motivated me to search my attic for the 1970 Byron Nelson Classic program I have somewhere signed by Jack, Byron and Plamer just to name a few.

I had a program from the Memorial full of autos from when I was a tyke and thought it was neato. I gave it and one of Jack's golf balls to a friend of mine that collects that stuff, once I turned 18 I had no use for anyone's sig unless it was on a check.
  • I wasn't even born yet in 1970. Found it at my grandfathers house cleaning out his office one day. Put it on eBay as is about 5 years ago with an unreal reserve just to see how high it would get. Only got up to about $175 so I just kept it.

Jack is 50/50 on signing TTM. I have a great 73 PGA program that he personalized and signed for me TTM about a year and a half ago. I also have had rejections TTM from him. It all depends on whether he is traveling a lot and how his secretary is feeling. The impression I get is if it's a light mailing month, he signs everything (except balls) and if it's a heavy month, she has him sign only pictures of he and other people that they had taken with him along with programs from tournaments that he won. Sometimes generic cards and Single signed Masters stuff gets the shaft. He's usually pretty good at signing stuff that's already been signed by other people (like pin flags etc.). Did you get a Preprint picture with a facsimile sig?
  • Jack Nicholson is pretty nice when it comes to signatures, he signed my 1st edition One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest. Maybe you can send the card TTM to Jack Nicholson and switch a few letters around

    Hey Mike--

    TO
  • If anyone hasn't seen any of Mike's auto'd golf collection, it is the shiznit!

EDIT: Was referring to Vito(Mike) not navarro
  • Mike, any chance you can PM me the addy for Jack, I would like to give it a try. If you don't mind me asking, how did you package the card (toploader, sleeve)? Did you send in a PWE with a PWE for return shipping? Sorry if those seem like dumb questions, I have never sent TTM before and trying to figure out the best way.

    Thanks

    Hi Mike,

No, no preprint. Just came back unsigned in my toploader and SASE without anything else. No too busy letter, nada.

    Take care,

I figure rather than just PM it, I"ll just post it for everyone's benefit. The address is:

Jack Nicklaus % Golden Bear Enterprises, 11780 US Hwy 1, N Palm Beach, FL 33408

I put the card in a toploader and sandwich between two pieces of cardboard and send in a bubble mailer with another bubble mailer inside that has enough postage on it to get it back to me. (you might want to put enough postage on the SASE in case they include additional items such as signed photo's, cards, etc. as sometimes you get a nice surprise) Be sure and include a polite letter as well. Good luck!

  • Not to change the topic, but just looked through the attic for my Byron Nelson Classic program with Nicklaus auto and couldn't find it. Did find a complete set of 1991 Pacific Nolan Ryan and some 1st Series Garbage Pail Kids.
  • Ya I have found several sets of 1991 Pacific Nolan Ryan. The cards are very good kindling

Send a donation to either The Ohio State University Foundation (or Athletics, to be designated towards the golf program), or check out the Jack Nicklaus Museum online and see if they have a foundation. Write a check for $25 or $50, deduct it off your taxes, and he'll probably sign.

  • I apologize for bumping an old thread but curious how this turned out. Thanks to the other Mike (VitoCo197something) I started a 1981 Donruss auto set. Nicklaus is obviously the centerpiece. I have quite a few extra 81 Donruss Nicklaus' so wouldn't hurt me if I lost one with a TTM request.

    Bill,

I haven't tried again yet as I managed to get the 2 Nicklaus cards I wanted already autographed and PSA/DNA slabbed, the 71 and the 81. I do eventually plan on sending another 71 as I have an unsigned one as well, just haven't gotten around to do it yet

  • All I need are the 81 Donruss regular and stat leader, slabbed or not.

Total assumption here, but I'd guess that Nicklaus has little obligation to sign autos like a team sports player does. He earned his paychecks on tour. Sure, one could say he's a public figure and all -- but I think many pro golfers think about this differently than MLB players...
    Enjoy your collection!
