Best Present-Day Cards to Buy?

I have currently been searching the local wal mart and target for baseball and football card packs that I think might be valuable. Unfortunately I was unsucessful so this is where yall come in. What group of unopened 2008 cards will give you your money's worth?

Wait for Allen & Ginter in the next week. It's the best set on the market.

  • I have alot of luck and fun with the Topps Chrome blaster boxes was ybetter than hobby with the blue refractors and xfractors.

Topps Base set usually makes a decent return in Blaster form.

FYI typically avoid Wal-Mart blasters. Target blasters tend to be better.
  • I agree with Matt, none. Just my opinion though.

what the hell is all that about?
  • Didnt mean to hijack this thread....wait...forgot who the OP was. Yes, I did. The Cliff Notes version, when Aragorn first arrived here, there was some suspicion that he was the same person as a past slimeball on this board. Mainly the similarity in typos and lack of punctuation plus the interest in the same collecting areas. Then, Aragorn posts a thread regarding 1989 Fleer Griffeys and Ripkens. Only strengthened the suspicions. My favorite thread was when he said he sent a sub, all 1989 Fleer, to PSA on July 3rd, the Thursday before the holiday weekend. According to him the cards were logged in on Monday the 7th and grades popped on Wednesday the 9th. WOW!! Grades popped 3 business days after being mailed to PSA?

    Poppage thread

And here is another thread where he is offering a ton of 1989 Fleer baseball for sale.

    1989 Fleer Thread

Just a board history reminder, most people dealt with Gary with blinders on. Only a few suspected wrong doing prior to everyone getting the shaft. If I am wrong on this, please forgive me. I havebeen wrong before but this just seems too coinicdental.

They think it's Gary under a different alias. By the looks of the date you joined though, it was probably before your time. Basically, this guy Gary held a bunch of group breaks and eventually people realized that he was possibly searching and resealing packs. He denies it to this day if he pops in for a visit, and a bunch of good people were out of a good amount of money.
  • He don't deny it in his posts he rubs it in the faces of those who he shafted.

In the meantime I thought Stephaniescloset was on a 15 day Ebay suspension according to Gary that was a month ago.
  • "and eventually people realized that he was possibly searching and resealing packs"

he was DEFINITELY doing it. ripped off a bunch of folks, yet was still allowed to post here for a good long time. could never quite understand that. I was really hoping a board member or two would introduce themselves to him personally. If he where local I would have had no qualms about showing up at his house with my trusty louisville slugger, or a flamethrower......
  • If I am not mistaken, metalmike has his home address.

There was also accusation that he would buy boxes off Ebay and then replace those "suspect" wax packs with the good packs from Steve at BBCE and send the "questionable" packs to those in the group rips. I believe to this day that is what he did the most and why he said "he" never resealed packs, he just bought them already resealed and sent them along to other collectors.

What got Gary caught was his overwhelming need to always have the packs sent from Steve to him first and then he would resend them to the other board members. At first it seemed nice because alot of the rips were like 3 packes each of football from 78 to 86 or something like that and it would take some time to break down the boxes and mail it all out. What got Gary was Steve at BBCE offered to do it for the group rips and Gary started to protest and tried to still have it delivered to his house.

  • Well I have no idea why I am being accused of this guy. The only "evidence" you have is that I like 1989 Fleer which is one of the more popular years because it is cheap and you get good cards. Everything lsutigers has thrown at me does not match up yet he continues to spam my threads with nonsense and attempted conspiracy theories. I personally do not think that it is fair for me to be constantly accused by lsutigers and metalmike and I would like you to stop. Thank you

True but Gary was also busted on ebay buying used wrappers and NM commons of the same cards the group was about to rip, a pretty sure sign he was resealing and screwing over board members.

2008 Topps Tales of the Troll ....

Sorry, but I thought LSU might have fun with this one image
  • Yeah i saw that Red Sox version but I am not really a fan so I avoided it. I also learned to avoid loose packs at wal mart because on the ones I bought every single corner on each card was creased
  • I would still like to know how tro...I mean Aragorn, had a sub pop in 3 business days from the day he shipped to PSA? Do you live next door to PSA and your uncle works there?
  • Haha here are some more conspiracy theories. Look at my other post, I shipped them on 7/3 and they received them 7/7. They popped 7/10. Billwaltonsbeard popped in the same amount of time as you can see on my first submission thread that you hijacked like all my other ones for no reason. Yep your logic makes a lot of sense

  • You eithe rsent them Express mail or live 5 miles from PSA. I sent my last sub on the 30th of June from here in Texas it arrived in Newport on the 7th and was entered in on the 8th. Grades popped on the 10th so I believe the fast poppage. I just find the delivery time from your location to Newport as being suspect.

i dont get it? why would someone suspect someone else of lying about how fast an item has shipped? for what reason would he do that?
