Most crackouts & resubmits without a single bump

What have the results been for anyone cracking and resubmitting several copies of the same card/same grade (i.e PSA 8 = SGC 88 = BGS 8) with respect to getting bumps?

For example, submitting 10 Griffey rookies all previously graded 9 - what are the odds of getting at least 1 graded 10

Unconsciously, would graders begin to compare the same cards to one another as opposed to their strict grading guidelines.

  • I also wonder if PSA looks at your past order history to determine if you are resubmitting a card that PSA has already graded

    or

if when you submit a card from another grading company do they enter the ID number for that card so if you
resubmit they just check your order history and they don't have to look under a microscope again.
  • anybody? any success or defeats?

I have never cracked another company's slab and resubmitted to PSA. I've cracked about a dozen PSAs and resubmitted them. Most get the same grade. I've had 2 get a bump up.

I don't think so. Have faith. There are still good honest people in the world.

I've cracked and resubmitted about 60 cards. About 15 bumps. Couple rejected the second time around too. Most stay the same, even with a good eye. Best was an off-brand 8.5 89 UD Griffey that bumped to PSA 10 (and a few tougher 1962T commons from 7 to 8 that meant a few $$).

What about cards that were bumped down? Ever have that happen?

I've had moderate success (at least 50%), but that figure is a bit skewed since I'm only re-submitting a select bunch of cards that upon close inspection had a strong shot at a bump.
  • I don't consider that figure skewed, since most people are going to look close enough to find only the ones that appear to be worthy of a bump.

50% would be a good return, considering most grade bumps more than double a sales price - especially in the higher grades (8, 9).

I had two sharp 1959 Football commons regraded from a 8 to a 9. The cards originally came from a vending box.
  • Just got a review back for 4 bumps with vintage FB, 3-.5's and a 8 to a 9 on a 13 card sub. Also did a crossover of a SGC 98 to a PSA 10. image
