What are your favorite oddball, regional, and test issues from the 80's?

I was a teenager during the eighties, so I collected a lot of stuff besides the regular issues back then....

Some of my favorites were/are:

1981 Fleer Star Stickers
1984/1985 Topps 5x7's
1985 Donruss Action All-Stars (the year with the black borders)
1986/1987 Donruss Pop-Ups
1988 Topps Bigs
1988 Topps U.K.

I always liked the Mother's Cookies issues. They came with rounded corners already, which was cool.

    OK. You're crazy image

I like the food issues, like 7/11 coins or the Kraft Mac & Cheese.

These were actually not 80s, but I had a lot of fun hunting down these 1991 Crown All Time Orioles sets. They came in 3 series of perforated sheets and had people lining up at Crown gas stations every time a new set was released.
  • I got into all those food issues. Nestle, Kraft Mac and Cheese, Wonder Bread...whatever it was, our family had six years of supply. I liked the Granny Goose sets too. And the cards that were on the back of a wax box from Topps too.

Not that anyone cares but since 1991, I've been hunting down the players in this set for autographs and thus far, I've gotten 421 of them signed (the set was like 504 cards although approx. 50 were deceased prior to issuance)...Latest addition was the elusive Drungo Hazewood.

Back to your regularly scheduled program........

1980 Laughlin Famous Feats. From what I understand, they were distributed by Montgomery Wards as complete sets and also in Sportscard Collectors sets that came with album, pages, and other misc cards. Love this set....

Well, it's really 1990, but my favorite is the Starlight or Long John Silvers 40 card set. I remember getting those when they came out back when I was 10 years old! Very nice colorful borders. And don't forget the 1986 True Value set too.

I like the 1988 BK Florida Gators issue. This particular card is a counterfeit but looks identical to the real one.

    Bishop's list + the following:

    1980 Topps Pepsi-Cola All Stars
    1982 Fleer Test
    1986 Sportflics Prototypes
    1988 Topps Cloth
    1984-1989 Topps Gallery of Champions....okay, 1990 and 1991 too

I also loved the 44-card Fleer boxes at the various drug stores. Best time I had in the '80s was collecting these buggers (in the card world at least). image
  • I loved the LJS set. They even made posters out of the card design.
