Money each month (collection)

How much money would you say you spend each month on your personal collection?

For me a cheap month would be maybe $100 and a expensive month would be maybe $500-$600 on my collection. I know there is a huge difference in spending habits on these boards so it would be interesting to me to read some responses.......thank you

The last 30 days I have spent over $550.00. The only reason I know that is because I sold some cards and just used up my paypal balance. If I was to guess I would go from $50.00 to $700.00 during any given month. It really all depends how many cards pop up on Ebay that I need.

Ive gone from 0.00 in a month to easily 1500 in a month. Always fluctuating. If I were to average? 2-300?

I shoot for $500 or less, but If I buy some biggies I try to sell something off too.

Between $2,000 and $5,000 a month. I flip a lot of cards so most of those cards are moving at some point.

For me it totally depends upon whether or not I want my wife to eat out at all during the month.

If you just glanced at that sentence without really looking closely, it actually looks kind of interesting.

On average, I'm probably between $50-$100.

In the past 31 days my ebay totals, including the price of shipping, is $56. However, I would consider this past month very slow for me.

Well as long as you are not spending her government funded disability checks on cards.

Can't afford it now. It's hard enough trying to help my brother keep a roof over his family's heads.
I only buy something I think I can get graded and sell for a small (hopefully large) profit. I have been selling off my collection slowly to help him out.

I saw your name and picture at the registery of the grocery store. So, that doesn't count because your check bounced.

    Good Day,
Not more than will allow me to eat out the Wife...er I mean eat out with the Wife. In other words, just enough so that it is under the Wife's Radar, usually about $5-800.00 per month. This last month though I have been on a spending spee, spent over 2K, but that has all been E-Bay profit.

No regular amount is budgeted in, I generally try to keep it around $300 a month but if a card pops up I really been searching for then whatever it takes ( within reason for me $500-$1200)
  • About $100 a month.

    But last month $600+

    This month $750

Future- No more packs random cards. Saving up for FF and Martins I really want/need.

It varies a lot month to month.

Last year I spent $800 or $1,000 with the BBCE buying packs and boxes (mostly late 70's, 80's) within 3 or 4 months. Baseball, basketball, football, hockey.

This year I haven't spent almost anything. My other collecting hobbies are cheap....$30 GI Joe figures or $20 for a playset.
  • depends on what i find...

I don't spend too much in the summer when there are other things to do, but here in MN, the winters are dark and boring, so then I buy whatever I want to buy within reason. Or if it's not within reason, I just rationalize it by telling myself I'll sell something in the near future to help pay for it. Right now, ebay seems kinda lean, so part of me looks at things that the S/H costs more than the product, like '87 football boxes and another part of me wonders why I would ever need anything like that. I almost bought that case of '79 fleer stickers that was relisted after not selling and ended up going for $100 and $50 more to ship
ps if anyone has '80's football cello boxes that they want to unload, pm me. I'm in the mood to open something!
  • some months i spend zero. then the next im motivated to finish a set lol. emptied the paypal account to finish off my 1961 set.... and now ive got about 90 cards to finish my 65 topps baseball.....

    Let's see,
    10 month old daughter
    +Daycare
+I live 50 miles from work (equates to about $6-700 a month in gas between the wifey and I)
    +Rising food prices
+The home values in our neighborhood keep going down while the taxes go up
+Student loans still hanging out there

= $0 left for cards right now.

Oh how I miss the days of disposable income.

wow! thanks for the reminder to make sure my wife takes her anti-baby, pro disposable income pill tonight at 9:00.
  • I'm all over the place with this. I go on binges. I won't buy anything for six months and then I'll drop $4,000 or $5,000 in a month. The same goes with selling. I won't sell anything for 3-4 months and then I'll get a free weekend and sell $6,000 worth of stuff I don't care about anymore. A few years back, I had $13,000 worth of stuff sold in the past 30 days in one of my ebay user IDs and then bought a game-used bat for $7,000. I have an awesome wife that trusts me with my purchases so I don't need to hide it from her.

I spend an average of about $150.00 a month.
  • Let's see, sold my 1969 Topps PSA set because I needed the money.
Used the money to start a PSA 8 or better 1970 Topps baseball set.
Just sold the last card, PSA 8 Carew, on eBAy because I needed the money to feed my $2000 a month pack ripping addiction.
Now I am selling some PSA HOF'ers and other random cards so I can renew my PSA subscription and have money for my first sub of the cards I pulled from the rips.
I am waiting on my financial partner to sign off on a few mineral leases for some properties we have so I can have some extra money to buy some unopened 70's packs to rip.

For those that do not know, I am sitting on top of what is so far the 5th largest natural gas find in US history with the possibility that it could be bigger. The first mineral lease bonus I received was spent mostly on cards. I am actually scared to sign the leases on the other properties because I know I will blow it on unopened packs. Might as well get the checks written directly to Steve Hart.
