What is the paypal protection on non ebay items?

I just sold a pretty high dollar card through paypal but not ebay.
Its going overseas and was wondering if the buyer can still try to file a empty envelope scam.

Thanks,
Roger-

Anytime you use PP, you can fall victim to a scam.

PP is about as much help to a seller on/off EBAY.

I, personally, would not accept PP on such a deal.

BUT, a crooked buyer can pull the same stuff by using
any credit card; whether PP is in the mix or not.

International Money Orders and bank-to-bank transfers
    are best for foreign transactions.

The guy has 100% feedback over 2500 transactions. I guess I will just have to take the chance. I am making about 300% profit on the item so I guess we will just have to gamble.

And i like the fact that he negotiated with me over the last $10 on a 4 figure card which makes me think if he was planning a scam he wouldn't bother.

A common ploy of scamsters, designed to cause the mark to form the precise belief noted above.

    ........

I am sure it will be fine.

  • That is one area where I don't like paypal.
I have changed my "rules" where that from now on, I put in my auction "NO international", but if someone emails
me and asks if i will ship international, I tell them yes, but no paypal.
I don't believe there is ANY protection for a seller for international shipping, but perhaps I am wrong?

"I don't believe there is ANY protection for a seller for international shipping, but perhaps I am wrong?"

PSers are covered by SP now.

Everybody will be covered by October.

It is unlcear whether the Customs Numbers will suffice, or if Express Mail will be required.
EM can add from $20 and up to the cost of the transaction. Most buyers balk and/or
    ding the seller's stars HARD.

IF he used a credit card, you can get screwed, ebay or not...

Talking about knowledge, I have always respected your knowledge of paypal, and like how you usually quote them directly.
What exactly do you mean PSers are covered by SP now, and everybody will be by october??

PowerSellers are currently covered for Intl deals on EBAY, through PayPal Seller Protection.

In October, that coverage will extend to ALL EBAY sellers.

My wife sold something off ebay on her website and still was protected by a bad buyer via Paypal's seller protection.

You should be a spokesman for paypal, you probably know more about them than their employees...i have spoken to a few of their reps...
