"This card was probably obtained by that child back in 1911 the same way kids obtained their cards for generations, by trading, flipping, or straight out of the pack" This comment alone may have cost him a grand or more as this is a cigarette card, duh. I bet this card gets flipped and reholdered too. Mike

It was not issued in a pack of cigarettes, it started out as trash. The card was most likely obtained from the dumpster behind the printers like all "printers scraps" of the era, so a kid finding it is likely.
Price it went for is 5X too high IMO Only one person cleared the reserve, so the true value is still not known.
It is the first time this "card" has ever been sold. Ive known about this "card" for about 5 years now, it is the best example of a printers scrap from the T206 set. But it is not an issued card, just a scrap piece of a practice sheet used by the printers to test ink coverage and registration.
The best thing about it is it has the very very rare brown Old Mill back. Also proves that most if not all of the 16 brands were printed in the same location.
fkw- how do you KNOW all of which you speak? The card is WORTH what someone is willing to pay for it. From a pack of cigs or the trash- who cares? I would as a oddball /error collector pay a premium for history like that regardless of the era. As I have stated many times before, go kiss Leon.

Mike, The card is worth 1 bid higher than the guy who is second. Its basic auction design, think about it.
ie. If some clown puts a 1980 Henderson with a reserve or a BIN of $5K and another actually buys it for that price it doesnt mean it is worth $5K.
Im not knocking the card, it is awesome, but only one guy wanted it bad enough to bid more than the reserve. You need 2 bidders to clear the reserve or an auction with no reserve to actually find the true est. worth.
Ive programed snipes for over 10X the value of certain rare cards before, but it doesnt mean its worth what I bid.
PS Leon's opinion was $3K, I thought slightly less. But it is unique so really hard to gauge.
Very nice for the seller, when he first ask about the card on the eBay message board a few years back he really didnt know what it was or if it had any value, he picked it up as part of a group of cards in the 1970s for almost nothing.
Actually the T206 Wagner is one of his most common playing days era cards made. With 50-65 examples known there are dozens of different Wagner and thousands of 1910 era cards far far rarer.

+1 it's rarer than the T 206 Honus Wagner To each his own.
