Just picked up a sweet '77 and '78 set today. SCANS ADDED.

These are some of the crispest cards I have held in a long time. Centering is all over the map but all of them are pack fresh.

Murray rookie is Mint O/C. Will post some scans later tonight and tomorrow.

Are you keeping them together as sets or grading and reselling? How's the 77 Dwight Evans look?

Those were the two sets I had a ton of as a kid. I have ofter thought about building either a raw or graded set of both. Would love to see some scans.

  • Where did you get these Mr. Burgundy?

Here are some scans of the '78 set, I'll try and add the scans of the '77 set tomorrow. Some of these will eventually be up for sale (including the Murray) on the BST trade board later in the week.

I too have just as nice a 1978 set, and hopefully with some upgrades my 1977 set will be just as nice too. Good job on your purchase.image

This is the first year I collected cards as a kid. Never paid attention to centering then, but now it's apparent Topps didn't pay much attention to centering either.

The scans may appear slightly distorted because the cards still have their natural curvature.

Thanks to the greatness of Bosox 1976, I have some pretty nice ones already to replace many of the O/C ones.

  • Very nice cards...did you get those from Ebay?
  • RonBurgundyRonBurgundy Posts: 5,491 ✭✭✭
Not from Ebay. One of the local shops around here that never has much of anything had them.

  • Sweet cards, especially the Ryan and Bench, typical red smear on the Molitor. great pick up. will keep an eye on the BST board this week.

The # 400 Ryan is TOUGH to obtain with decent top to bottom centering! Good Job! The Murray is average at best and the Molly shows the dreaded Molly stain. I am assuming that there is a distortion problem with your scans. With that said your Sutter, Garvey, Dawson, 77 Home Run Leaders, Lasorda, Morgan, Sutton, and Whitaker cards are really nice from what I can tell. image

I think the Whitaker, and maybe another card or two from those scanned, has a shot at a 10. It might be fun to send some of these in on the special this month, what do you think?

If you have a Mint 9 of 1978 Rick Burleson, Greg Luzinski or Ron Cey that would be great. As well, a Mint 1977 Randy Jones.
    Enjoy your collection!

Let's see some of those 77s!! How does the Fidrych card look??
  • RonBurgundyRonBurgundy Posts: 5,491 ✭✭✭
What are the tougher cards from '78? I know Jackson Todd is difficult, but other than that I know nothing about what cards are tough.

It's so great to go through these, having bought them as a kid. I remember hounding my mom to buy rack packs at the local grocery store.
