Poll: At what dollar ammmount is a card considered to be a "high dollar" card?

I saw a post earlier that said that said "$500 is not high dollar to many." If that's true, then I'm in the minority. So, I thought I'd launch this poll to see what folks here think.

I think it is neither pro nor anti working-class to call a card
"high dollar" if it sells on EBAY for $500 or better.

"High dollar" currency would be higher than $1000.

"High dollar" coins would be above $3K.

Count me in the minority..... anything over $100 and I worry until the card arrives in my hands.
I've been 'taken' a few times in the many years I've used Ebay... it sucks.

ALWAYS Looking for Chris Sabo cards!

My mendoza line is $1,000...Anything under that, I don't really have an issue or worry of spending, even if it's $999..But something about that 4th digit always makes me think twice about purchasing any card above that level.

I don't know if this post is in reference to my comment to Guru about how to spend some extra money. My point was, spending more than $500 on modern cards to rip becomes counterproductive because it will be nearly impossible to recoup the majority of your money (without an extremely lucky pull).

I've found that if I invest $400-500 in rips that I can typically build and trade for the cards I want from a particular set and make a little of the money back afterwards.

Beyond $500, I'd rather purchase a stable vintage product that will maintain if nothing else.

No, the post I was referencing was about individual cards.

I think it depends on what you collect. In my world of Will Clark cards, anything over $100 is "high dollar." If I was collecting 1933 Goudeys, then it would probably be $500. For some people, $50 is easily high dollar.

For me I would say any card over $1,000. For high end its 1,000-2,000 is my limit for ebay. If I go to a show or bid at a auction house its more.

I will think twice when it comes to above the $250 mark, meaning I will only buy it if its a good example of the grade Im buying, I have no problem spending over $500-$1000 either but those purchases are few and far between.
  • 250 is the line for me

I would say "High Dollar" would be about $1000.00.

Absolutely correct. It depends on what you collect. I collect T206. Common cards in that set graded PSA-5 go for around $100, a PSA-7 common ussually can not be had for under $375, and more likely sells for over $400. $500 would not even be in the ball park for any PSA-8 common, low pop psa-7, many mid grade Hall of famers, and lower grade big name Hall of famers such as Cobb and Young. The lowest grade Drum back goes for more than $500. In the set I collect high end does not even begin until $1000, and there are a LOT of cards that go for MUCH more.
