Penny sleeves discolor top loaders

I have been out of collecting for about 15 years now. I just recently took a look at my cards and noticed that the top loaders I used penny sleeves with have all changed color. The cards don't seem to be damaged but the top loader has turned yellow. Can this be dangerous to the cards? Has anyone else noticed this?

That definitely looks like it belonged to a smoker

Ive seen this with some of my old top loaders as well, and I dont think it's the penny sleeve doing it. I'm more inclined to think it's just a cheaper top loader.

The problem is with the toploader. It is not acid free or for that matter archival safe. I have a bunch that turned yellow as well but it doesn't have to do with the penny sleeve. All of my raw cards are in penny sleeves and toploaders but only some have yellowed, not all. I bought a bunch of loaders really cheap years ago and they are all yellow.

    Yup.

The current ones have a much lower acid-content and should stay clear longer.

Deffiently not from smoke. They were is a smoke free home. They must have been cheap top loaders then. I was just thinking what happens if in 15 years all of the craded cards with penny sleeves turned yellow. That would be kind of scary

I have the same issue. Definitely not the sleeve either. I had a bunch of packages that I bought years ago and just opened a couple recently. All were yellow and yes I got them cheap. Just another example of you get what you pay for!

Yep. Same experience here. The toploaders yellow with age and that's a fact. Have always had this problem going all the way back to the 80's. Thank God for the diminitive, little, under appreciated penny sleeve. It was the only thing that keep the acid from deteriorating plastic from damaging the card.
