What is the difference between these 2 World Series Balls

Just wondering why one ball is Gold and the other Red
I think the Red ones were made to be used in the 86 World Series but I have no idea why there are Gold ones

you'll notice that the Gold one doesn't have Ueberroth's facsimile signature either

I've seen pics of the buckner baseball and it has red printing. I guess that at least means some red ones were used.

Is is possible that only the red balls were actually game used and the gold were for souvenir purposes only?

That sounds possible --- I have several Red ones with Gary Carters sig but I cant recall ever seeing a Gold one until a few months ago.

I would imagine that the Gold ones were recently manufactured for commemortaive/souvenir purposes and that they left Uerberroth's signature off so not to pay him any royalties..The ones used in the game were definitely the red ones

The red ones were used in game. Don't know about the gold ones but were produced afterwards (how long ago, no idea).
So basically my kid won't be able to go to college, but at least I'll have a set where the three most expensive cards are of a player I despise ~ CDsNuts
