<< <i>OK...I left the previous posting so that you can see that I really tried not to use the pity story, which as you will soon become aware isn't much of a pity story. It is more of a selfish stunt to keep from working. There. I said it! But please listen to my excuse.

I am a 37 year-old-single father of three. I have a 17 year old son and 13 & 3 year old daughters. Without the two older ones, there's no way I could make it. Without any of them, there's no way I could have become the person that I am >>

The person that he is? "Hey kids, I'm going to try and sell this ball hoping to get way more than it is worth by attempting to take advantage of people's feelings all because I don't want to get a job."

What a great example for your kids dad.

I would pay to kick him in the nads to invest in his future....a reason not to work and not make any more kids!

I contacted him to ask what his reserve was and here's what he replied:

"Not going to say exactly, but if you notice, I did say that a few hundred or even a few thousand wouldn't be enough for me to part with it. I will say that it is more than 3 but less than 10k. As I said, I might be crazy, but the only way I will part with it is if it really stands to benifit my kids and me.

    Thanks,
    lucasj12"

If the oldest is at least 17 yrs and 6 months, he is eligible for military service with consent from his Dad. The boy can find his own way in life now. That should help with his expenses.
  • Well I read that description, but someone that is really looking for an auto'd Cowboys ball would have to want it pretty bad to read through all of that garbage. It's a nice gesture that the guy wants to do something for his kids I guess, but really, get a freakin' job and pay for some day care or something. I'm sure the guy is going to find that his attempt to have someone else support his family is a pretty futile effort and this time would have been better used finding a job.

The ball is actually sort of interesting.

The seller RUINED his listing with NONSENSE.

I agree. He doesn't really say much about the ball itself. All he talks about is how he wants to weasle out of the difficult parts in life. I, too, struggle trying to balance work and family life. I'm not sure why he thinks he deserves a free pass.

Poppa J, I will bet if you sold your collection, you would have enough to meet his reserve. Dont be selfish. image
  • We had some pretty serious flooding in Wisconsin and FEMA had declared a state of emergency for some counties. Well in Milwaukee County yesterday, the folks who lived there thought that they were giving away $400 food vouchers to flood victims (which they were, sort of). On top of the fact that thousands of inner city residents showed up, most of whom suffered zero flood damage, when they learned that instead of a free $400 hand out, you actually had to fill out an application for it, they started a riot!!! I'm not sure why society is slipping further and further out of control and everybody wants a "free ride," but it's pretty freakin' sad, I know that much. I blame "reality tv" LOL.

Erm... when did Earl Campbell play for the Dallas Cowboys exactly? I wonder how much this would effect the value of a "Dallas Cowboys" signed ball...

Never and probably nothing since this guy's reserve is in the $5,000 - $10,000 range!

    Found this info:
While at the University of Texas, Earl Campbell was chosen as a New Man in the Texas Cowboys student service organization in the mid-70s. The Texas Cowboys are the student organization made up of campus leaders. They are also responsible for taking care of and firing 'Smokey' the Cannon at Texas football games.

I heard about this too. Absolutely disgusting. No mention on any of the major national news outlets though. I wonder why.

I think the guy shoulda had a "best offer" option listed on this, the way he portrays his extreme need to sell.

Maybe the news is starting to turn to the "light side" and try to report on more positive things in life. Nah, that probably isn't it. It was probably because that minor leauge ball girl took the spot light with that catch. Unreal, lol.
