Some people have more money than Brains... what's the odds the buyer doesn't pay after his Wife finds out about this one?

Well, I looked at the registry - my guess is the guy that just took over #1 was the buyer. I'm assuming those checklists are like the 57 Topps Football one - impossible to find in Mint shape...but high 5 figures is just crazy...and I LIKE the 3 stooges.

The give credence to the primary prefix numbers being grader ID's though. Interesting that they appear from three different submissions, but have the same prefix. Coincidence? Perhaps. Thoughts?

CURLY: Hey Moe, Larry! Help! I'm confused!
MOE: You're always confused, numbskull. slap!
CURLY: Ooh! Hey, what's the big idea?
MOE: No big idea. Grade the cards! How hard can it be?
CURLY: This card looks too good. Should I give it a 10?
MOE: Let me see that nose flick So what's the problem? Sharp corners, good centering. What are you, some sort of ignorAmus?
CURLY: We never gave a 10 for this kind. And these other two, from those other submissions. Look at 'em!
MOE: Hmmm, you're right. Boss Joe will hang us for sure, if we get this one wrong.
LARRY: Yeah, Boss Joe. He's a mean one.
MOE: Who asked you, porcupine? hair pull Now go back and finish that stack of '52s!
    LARRY: Yeah, yeah, alright.
CURLY: What should we do, give 'em a 10?
MOE: Well, the boss DID say to start enjoying our work more, and I'd be real happy to grade these a 10! What about you, melonhead?
    CURLY: Soitenly! But--OOPS!
MOE: Now look what you did! You dropped 'em! smack! We can't give these a 10 now! You dinged the corners!
CURLY: Yeah, but I can straighten them out with this iron!
MOE: Now you're using your brains! Iron those cards out and give them 9s. Nobody'll know a thing.

Next time, please post threads like this in the appropriate forum.

  • ODD RODS, from 1969, blow away any sports card ever produced.... besides the gawd like 1976 Topps Bench card, which is cooler than anything on this planet or in outer space.

anyone know any previous sales of unopened 59 stooges packs? Have a lead on a wax box ..looks like one on ebay up to 5600
  • I think that's great. It looks like the card would have sold for 33,000.00 if those two guys didn't battle at the end.
Two guys drove the price up to 75,000.00 dollars.
That seller is absolutely thrilled with that sale. So is ebay. The buyer is happy too. He has something that is just
impossible to get. Congrats to all people involved.

that may have been an example of two big players competing in the same set. and both entering VERY HIGH Maximum BIDS (they were both $50,000 over the third highest bid...)

the winning bidder has bought on Ebay hundreds of the Three Stooges Cards for months now, maybe even years....

He can afford that, he can also prolly afford a nice '52 Mick, and prolly has one (if that interests him.) :-)

Thing is, the Three Stooges checklists are arguably the rarest non-sport checklists around. Each of the cards exists with two backs...the normal back corresponding to the card's front, and as a checklist; so it's not as simple as just pulling that particular card number. Then, you can add the fact that as checklists, they were prone to being written on, and you come up with high prices, especially from Registry participants.

    Edited to add the following:

I just looked at my Sport Americana Non-Sports Price Guide and found this:

"The checklist cards are very scarce. They appear only on the backs of cards 16, 63 and 64, and on no others." "They appeared only on the final print run of the cards and only as a last minute decision due to a problem with original dies on the three cards."
