I think someone left the ball in the toaster oven too long...
The signature looks ok, though....not sure what part of his career that this is from (looks like Kirby's auto* changed a little through the years), but here is one for comparison:

I offered this ball to a Puckett collector for a donation to the Jimmy Fund. He said that it was a fake. I may direct the collector to the site to see!
I got this sigend in person in 1990 when I caught this batting practice ball down in Florida off the bat of Kirby. He was extremely nice and even chatted for a few minutes with me in the parking lot after the game.
It is amazing how much a persons signature can change!

And for anyone that thinks that finger prints and finger oils can't damage a ball, this is a prime example! Always handle an autographed ball by the seems or better yet, use cotton gloves if you tend to be a fumble-fingers.
