I reached a collecting milestone last night

No, I didn't get the latest hot Bowman Chrome prospect autograph, 1/1, low pop vintage PSA 9, or prewar HOFer in the mail yesterday. Nor did I find that elusive last card to complete a set.

I finished sorting my cards....

All 150,000 of them

Most of my collection was sorted one way - thrown in any box I could find and shoved under my bed or in my closet. I was real good about keeping my nice stuff in order, but the crap - 92 Leaf baseball, 95 Classic draft football, 93 Hoops basketball, 01 Collector's Choice hockey, Magic the Gathering stuff (why did I buy this junk?), my Ryan Leaf rookie card collection (WHY?) - was thrown haphazardly into whatever nook and cranny I could find in my room.

No more.

It took over a month, and I destroyed my room and the home office room in the process, but everything is sorted...Stars are in 3000 count boxes, sorted by player alphabetically, and by year, separated by sports of course; and all my commons are sorted by manufacturer, year, etc. I didn't sory by card number because I'm not that ADD, but this is the nicest my collection has looked since I bought my first pack of cards. And all my sets (200+ of them) are in binders in a bookcase. It's nice to now be able to find a specific card in under 30 hours.

    Congrats,
Now come over to my house and help me.
My home office is a wreck. My goal is to have everything sorted by the end of the summer.

You too? That's actually pretty good. Sometimes takes me days/weeks to find stuff.
  • Question...you say you separated by stars, but how did you determine that? Did you do HOF/ future HOFer, or did you go by the Beckett listing for stars, or another method? I'd be curious to know. I'm looking to do some serious sorting soon myself.

I just make up my own list based on watching guys play. For example I've always been a Mike Sweeney fan, thus he's in my star box....I'm sure most others think he's a common. I'm also really biased - I don't have Deion Sanders cards in my star boxes because I hated him growing up. He will always be worthless to me

As for retired players, It's just a mix of HOFers and stars of their respective generations - Munson, Garvey, Smokey Joe Wood, Santo, etc

I gotta stop going to target on my lunch. All though notice my 26th national convention poster on the right I stole with 11 year old present, Im so proud!

Vending boxes are mostly Early 80's baseball, I have a box of 80-81 Basketball, and I believe one is all Drakes Cakes 1985 I believe.

RipublicaninMass: I saw your thread in BST and how about this for a trade, Red Sox for Jeters?
