What would y'all do with this second chance offer? 2001 Finest Pujols PSA 10 autographed

I was bidding earlier tonight on a 2001 Finest autographed Pujols PSA 10. It went for $386.00 and I was the underbidder at $381.00. The seller has offered me a second chance offer of $381.00, says the winning bidder told them they no longer want the card. However, my radar is going off for a few reasons now that I've done some analysis of the situation.

Here's the original auction

I have a couple concerns:

1. I might have been getting shilled and would have been high bidder at $315.00 if it hadn't been for the so called "high bidder"
2. Now that I've examined the sellers feedback, I see that they've only done a couple of transactions the last few months, and the only one you can see was for $5.00, so I'm leary of a highjacked account and not getting my merchandise if I do accept the 2nd chance deal.

If y'all were me, would you take the chance and pay via paypal? I did email the seller and tell them my concerns and that if he would sell for $350.00 and ship it to me FIRST, then I would definitely buy it and would pay him when I receive it. I have an easily traceable reliable ebay history and perfect feedback so they should have no concerns with that if they do their research.

My gut is telling me no, no, no on the 2nd chance offer, so I'm not going to take it, unless they agree to my terms and ship it to me first. Am I being too leery and losing out on a card I want at a decent price?

The seller just emailed back and said he would do $350.00 but wouldn't ship it to me first. He claims paypal offers all the protection I need. I politely told him that paypal offered no valid protection and I sincerely wished him that he makes even more money on it the next time he auctions it, but I was passing unless he shipped first.

Thanks guys for just reinforcing my gut feeling.

  • Smart move, Mike. It's just too fishy that right as soon as it ends, he claims the buyer does not want it. I'm sure it happens, but I feel there is more to this story.

I would have passed anyway for a bolder signature for that kind of money for a player still signing actively.
  • I don't think you were shilled, but I have a feeling the card does not belong to the seller at all.

He relisted in a little over an hour after it ended. All that sure transpired fast.

Personally, I never take a second chance offer unless the seller is willing to take what would have been my winning bid would have been had the high bidder not put in one.
IT IS ALWAYS CHEAPER TO NOT SELL ON EBAY

you missed the point, its a ROOKIE CARD, doesnt matter if he signs 1,000,000 more cards, the number of rookie cards will never increase...
