Picked up a Charlotte O's jersey

Greetings all. I'm sure that I'll do some sort of write up on this to post on the site, but wanted to go ahead and share the news with all of you. Many of you have been great about the site from the days that it was just a concept in the works.

Long story short, a Charlotte O's game worn jersey came available last fall. I was the winning bidder, but the reserve wasn't met. The jersey was owned by a gentleman who went to O's games as a kid and got the jersey from a close friend who acquired it in 1981. The jersey was signed by Jim Palmer in 1981, which is noted by the "1981" inscription. The jersey was later signed by Cal Ripken, Jr. I have a Charlotte cap signed by Cal that was worn in the mid 1980's and was a little disappointed in not getting the jersey. We swapped e-mails for awhile but could never strike a deal.

Over the last 2 weeks the seller decided to drop me an e-mail asking if I still wanted the jersey and we found a price that we could agree on. Although I'm not really buying much currently, it's not often the chance for something like this comes up. The sigs on the jersey have been checked out by Bill Haelig, friend to the site and #1 expert on all things Cal Ripken, Jr.

Knowing the sigs were legit, the remaining question was in regards to the possibility of the jersey also being worn in 1980, the year when Cal and the Charlotte O's won the Southern League Championship. Although you still can't definitively say that the jersey was worn in 1980, the jersey does match a jersey confirmed to have been worn during the 1980 season. Having the jersey in itself is pretty cool. Having the jersey signed by Cal and Jim is even better. The prospect of this jersey being worn during Charlotte's 1980 Southern League Championship season would be unreal.

Not the greatest of images, but I'll try to post better ones later. Enjoy!
