1986 Fleer Basketball Question??

Do you think that common PSA 10s have ever sold for $5,000?? I saw someone stating this over in the Non-Sports card forum and wondered if this is realistic??

The Jeff Malone was the toughest common early on. Not sure what the first ones brought.

Maybe, but I doubt it. Right now the toughest commons sell for $400-$1000 (Blackman, Hanzlik, Checklist, etc...). If a Johnny Moore or Kareem Sticker ever surfaced they would probably go in the $2000 range, but I don't see a common ever reaching $5k. Back when they were low pops, the registry wasn't in existence so nobody really cared about the commons as much as they do now.

Edit- Allen's right; Jeff Malone's another one that sells in the $700 range.

Well he did say it was early on when he was selling them.

Beckett had an article about the Jeff Malone in maybe 2001 or so as I believe it was the only card that had not had a 9.5 graded. I think a Kareem Sticker in a 10 would crack $2500 easy. Just my thoughts.

Blackman and Jeff Malone also aren't really commons. Nor is a checklist.

  • Circa 1999 on eBay, it may have been possible - at that time Jordan PSA 10's were going for $30,000+

I saw 1990 Fleer Jordan 10's sell for $800....there was a wise investment - worth about 1% of that now.

People rode the 'population reports' off of very high cliffs.

I've actually still got some eBay printouts of final auctions from that era - if I find time to scan them, I'll post a few.

Great time to be a seller, though. :-)

    conversly speaking,

building a nice mint (ie, psa 9) set minus #57 is very possible, and a wise investment if there ever was a set to invest in.

Back in 2000, I had the first Paul Pressey #88 Gem Mt 10 graded by PSA. I ended up getting $2000 cash and a little over $2000 trade for it.
