Wow! That Is One Horrificly Altered PSA Label!

Wow, that is one horrificly altered PSA label for a 1954 Topps Hank Aaron PSA 5.

P.S. Is "horrificly" even a word?

Jack - I think the word "horrific" has be so overused but you've certainly "taken it to the next level". Oh wait, that phrase is overused too...

The cert # matches a 54 Aaron PSA 5. Is that just an old PSA label?

    "Molon Labe"

    MooseDog,

    Duly noted.

Okay, perhaps not altered. But I don't think I've ever seen similar printing on a PSA label.

That is definately an older lable with the rounded border. The font does not look right, IMO, but I have seen this paticular lable where the text does not line up like the text on this card.

Agreed, the font doesn't match the original flips. I have a couple of '54s Not Aaron), but thiscard seems to match the characteristics and detail. Do others believe this isn't auth?

I agree with you guys. Th efont looks ok as I have several older psa cards that look similar. However, the placement of the ex 5 does look out of place for me. If the card is real and It does to me....but hard to tell w/o having it in hand....then its a very nice card and correctly graded.

I've never confirmed this, but I was told long ago that during some of the very early PSA on-site grading events, there were issues with the right justification when they printed labels. This could be a situation where the "traveling" printer just wasn't coordinated. Again, I've never been able to confirm this and I'm not sure if Joe would know as that was back in the Rocchi/Baker days.

I am opposite of this, the font to me looks wrong, but the placement of the text is similiar to others that I have seen with this type of flip.

Since when did we have to become experts at PSA label fonts to be able to tell if the card isn't fake? I am sure PSA is working on guide that shows all the various fonts and flips used in it's history to avoid being taken right??????????

I wish they would publish something showing the each generation of the flips they have used.

Not like they can not go on to Ebay and see them. I would just like to know what years what flips were used.

Fandango you can't perfectly mimic printing patterns of these kinds of printers they all have their signatures. That is why publishing a guide would help us collectors figure out the fake flips. Sure it might make a crook "better" but they will never be perfect. There are tons of guides on fake cards or money and that hasn't made those crooks figure out the "perfect" fake. Anything to inform the collecting community is a good thing IMO.

My main point is that we first used PSA to keep from getting screwed on fake or altered cards. Now, since PSA's own holders and security measures have been comprimised we are forced to not only figure out if the card is fake but now the holder, seems a step back to me.

This is a card that I once submitted to PSA. That particular label with that font was used around March of 2001 for a very short time - perhaps a few months. The '54 Aaron is very likely legitimate.

Interesting, that does like the Aaron card. I knew I had seen cards that had the text un-aligned like that, but the font just did not look right to me. But the Aaron could be legit, based Dude's card.

I would stay away just because of the seller's outright lies about the condition of the card.
