Rookie poster here

Just wanted to say hello and share a couple pics of my recent good fortune. About 20 years ago I lost 2/3 of my collection, that I accumulated as a kid in the Texas panhandle during the early 1960s (Hey--we couldn't pick up Red Barber or Harry Caray but we had baseball cards!) in a fire. Fortunately I stored some of the vintage stuff in a different place, including some 1948 Exhibits that I stuck in an old file cabinet and rediscovered a couple months ago. Anyway after PSA graded them, 2 graded top for the player and six others tied for best graded. Just thought I would share the 2 with you all and ask your opinions of the '48 Baseball's Great Hall of Fame Exhibits.

Thanks,
Texoma

  • Nice 1st post.

What other boards you frequent? If any?

Sorry to hear about the other 2/3. Cool you still have some and they graded high. If I still had my cards still from the 80's.....I dont think they would grade so high.

Oh BTW nice looking cards. Not my cup of tea, but they look nice.

Pictures of the Exhibits? How'd you forget about those?

Thanks everybody for the kind posts. The only other boards I post on, but not very often, are The Golf Channel discussion boards and the rivals.com forums for my beloved OSU Cowboys.

Finding these old cards really got me excited about cards again. But then I went out and did a very stupid thing--I got greedy. I bought some cards off ebay which I thought were '48 Exhibits in mint condition. Turns out they were an exact 1974 reprint set from the same Exhibit Supply Co. Paid dearly for my mi$$$take.

Nobody to blame but myself. But it was a heckuva rush when they first came in the mail--said to myself this is what it must feel like to win the lottery. I thought I had a stash of mint '48s and was going to get rich. Clean, beautiful, absolute pristine condition, original gloss, (white backs!) razor corner the whole works. Then I sent them in to get graded to PSA and a couple other houses. Somebody called my from SGC and goes "Sir those cards you sent in aren't 48 Exhibits." I was like, "Say WHAT?!!" It buckled my knees! "Yep--what you got are the 74 reprints...white backs." So if any of you ever look to buy "48 Exhibits make sure they have brown backs and not white.

I found some other stuff in the old boxes including approx. 500 vintage cards and a World Series program which I believe has historic implication. I'll post about it here later and see what you all think. Man I forgot how rough on cards we were as kids! We were TRADERS! Most of em are pretty rough, Good to EX category, but maybe a couple nuggets here and there.

    Thanks again guys.
