Poorly cut reprint? Star cards of His Airness were desirable long ago. Someone got greedy however. Incidentally, another low move by the GAI brain trust to continue slabbing them, imo.
>Unfortunately BGS and PSA do not grade these cards, but for a very good reason. When asked why they do not grade the Star basketball sets, Beckett said the following in October 2005:
“This is a question we get on a regular basis. The reason we choose not to grade the cards from the Star basketball set is due to an unauthorized reprinting of several of the sets a few years ago. Because the original printing plates were used, it is almost impossible to tell the difference between a real Star basketball card and one that was reprinted. Also, other sets are believed to have been created and back-dated to appear to have been issued in the mid-1980’s. Because of these questionable tactics, consumer confidence in Star Company cards is low, and BGS chooses to not authenticate the company’s basketball issues.”
Obviously PSA adheres to the same philosophy. All of the above cards were purchased in the early 1990’s before the unauthorized reprinting. <
