    I'd hit it !

There seem to be lots of Ana's in the sport, I have noticed .

They all seem to be pretty too .
  • No offense, but who cares?

Women's tennis is utterly tedious. None of the players can do anything but grunt and hit the ball hard. They can't serve and they can't volley, nor do they even seem to care about improving these aspects of their games. Any of the women's greats (Evert, Navratilova, Graf, etc.) would crush any of today's best players, even the Williams sisters.

And I say this as someone who is very knowledgable about tennis (my nephew is a professional ranked in the top 150 in the world and a two-time Pac-10 Men's singles champ).

Watching local high school doubles matches is more interesting than watching a professional women's singles match.

112 - how do you feel about men's tennis? I think it is much less exciting than women's tennis, especially on the hardcourts, where rallies seldom last longer than 3 or 4 strokes.

It's tough to compare different eras in tennis because of the technology...Evert and Navratilova never had to deal with serves coming at them as hard as the Williams sisters serve it or return. no doubt they had more skill back then, but would today's power overwhelm them?

I agree completely. The Men's game is boring, the only time it's interesting is on clay.
  • I think that men's tennis is not much better in terms of quality of play, but benefits from the fact that there are genuine rivalries and storylines, which means that there are actually a lot more matches where you have someone to root for or against.

Any Federer or Nadal match is worth watching not just because both are great players, but also because it's major news if either of them gets upset. You've also had the suprise semifinal runs by Tsonga at the Australian (where he beat my nephew in the 2nd round) and Monfils at the French. In addition, you have Federer's quest to win the French and Nadal's quest to win on something other than clay as storylines, as well as Djokovic's quest to beat either of the top two, which he did when he beat Federer at the Australian on the way to his first Slam.

Then you have Roddick's travails to entertain you, as well as a nice group of young up-and-coming Americans to follow (Isner, Young, Querrey, Kendrick, etc.).

In contrast, on the women's side you have a bunch of no-name Eastern Europeans, no clear #1 to root for/against, and no decent Americans aside from the Williams sisters, who quite obviously are much more interested in things other than tennis.

In a nutshell, while the men's semis at the French contained the top three players in the world plus a compelling underdog (as they did at the Australian Open), the women's semis contained four players nobody had heard of or cared much about.

numbers guy is just upset because Martina Navratalova kept rejecting his sexual advances back in the 80s.
