OT: eBay's New Feedback Ratings

Is it true a Seller can't have Negative Feedback for a Buyer anymore? I hope so because I would like to leave a Seller a Negative with no fear of retailiation. I bought a Bluetooth Headset for my wife's cell phone and the voice recognition does not work. The Seller refuses to exchange it and said there is nothing wrong with it the headset and it is her phone, but it doesn't work on my phone either. I have my own Headset and it works near flawlessly with Voice Recognition so I have something to compare its poor performance too. The Seller generally has Positive overall feedback (40,000+, 97%) rating but there are inter-dispersed among his feedback complaints on refusing to make exchanges.

It seems that a lot of high volume sellers have not so great feedback, I have purchased from a couple of them without issue. I generally will not bid anymore though on anyone with a feedback of less than 98% or better. I get the feeling that a lot of these type of high volume sellers don't care about an occasional neg.
  • I think you are right. If it is true that Sellers can not leave retaliatory Negative Feedback to Buyers, those 98% Sellers are gonna take a big hit in their Feedback percentages.

Yes, sellers are now at the mercy of every scamster on the planet.
Buyers can NEG victoriously, without fear. EVEN non-paying bidders
can trash every seller and maintain their 100% feedback FOREVER.
Sellers have been declared SCUM and buyers are better than GOD.

All that said: The OP is the victim of a bad seller. The seller should
be NEGd, if they will not solve the problem with the transaction.

As a fairly large seller of electronics, let me dispense some really good advice:

NEVER buy an electronic item via EBAY. No exceptions.

BestBuy/COSTCO/Sears/WMT are all safe places to buy any kind of
electronic items. If you buy from them and have a problem, they
    will solve it.

EBAY is a great place to buy collectibles. EBAY is a terrible place to buy
    ANYTHING else.

Theres nothing that says the text for a buyer has to be positiveimage
  • <<EVER buy an electronic item via EBAY. No exceptions>>

I disagree with you. I have had very good success for the most part with Electonic purchases on eBay and saved tons of money. I agree with you if the costs are similar and one can buy it at Costo. In this case I already called Motorola and have a return authorization. My beef with this particular seller is he seemed to care less. I just received it 2 days ago. Big NEGATIVE for him since I was forced to call Motorola and go the put on hold/ wait on the phone route.

ANY comment that might be construed to conflict with the summary
of a POSITIVE transaction, WILL be removed by EBAY upon request
    of the all-good-and-poweful buyer.

Such negative-positives are replaced with: "This Comment Was Removed By EBAY."

Sellers might as well simply adopt "This Comment Was Removed By EBAY," as their new NEG.

(Actually, leaving a positive-negative ONLY helps the scummy buyer's count.
It is better to simply make a professional and calm reply to the defamatory
LIES that the trash are leaving for sellers.)

This whole thing has now degenerated into a pogrom against GOOD sellers,
and a welfare-program in support of the worst crop of buyers that have ever
    been unleashed on EBAY.

This is NOT going to end well. It is MUCH worse than I predicted it would be.
It will result in FAR fewer choices for buyers, and may well create enough of
an exodus of sellers to fully support a lower-tier selling site.

EBAY garbage is now bidding on FIVE identical items, and ONLY paying for
the cheapest one. MANY sellers are NOT willing to file NPBs because the buyer
will NEG them. These criminals will now have 100% FB forever.

I thought of placing the disclaimer:

Please don't bother to counter the cautionary note with success stories.
There are TONS of good-outcome purchases. And, there are TONS of
bad-outcome tales. BIG BOX B&Ms seek to create satisfied/repeat
customers; it is a TOTALLY different game than EBAY.

I have been in electronics on EBAY for years. 90% of the business has
some element of scamsterism and anti-consumerism at its core. The
few good deals that buyers think they got, are FAR outweighed by
the TOTAL JUNK that is shipped out the door.

  • I agree that it's a scary day for sellers. At least we will have the buyers feedback history to judge by for awhile, until the new "no neg" feedback system over runs the older feedback. After that it's a crap shoot.

If a buyer has had 50 or 100 unfiled-NPBs in the past week/month,
the "FB history" will serve no notice to sellers.

In a year, the main-platform at EBAY will likely be BIN ONLY. NPBs
are easy to avoid with the "immediate payment required" feature.
90% of my listings currently use IPR; no problems with NPBs for me.

  • When I told the Seller I was going to leave him negative feedback this is what he said:

"You may follow the new Ebay policy if you wish, however we would also like to announce that this policy introduces the Ebay feedback department which punishes users who abuse the system that leave negative or neutral feedback in spite for the sellers. Those who violate this system receive a strike and after accumulating several of those get their usernames banned"

    This was my response:

Are you threatening me if I leave you Negative Feedback? I will have proof that the item was defective and I sent it back to Motorola since you would not exchange it.

I bought some shirts size XXL and when they arrived needless to say they were not XXL more like medium and not the quality of the brand I purchased. The seller states the address as New York but it was shipped from China..........

I would have NEGd the seller when he refused the refund.

If it was a PayPal buy, I would have filed a claim.

EBAY does claim that they are going to punish crooked buyers who
leave unwarranted FB. This case does not fall into that category.

Several reputable outfits are now categorizing buyers' NEGs and
will be selling/renting their lists very soon. I will be buying the
collectible list, the designer-fashion list, and maybe the electronics
    list.

The fact is - based on history - collectors are the LEAST problematic
on EBAY. Fashion is the worst category. Electronics is very bad, but
it is pretty easy for experienced sellers to police; lists are freely
    exchanged among many electronics sellers.

BestBuy and WMT have great headsets.

My primary category on EBAY is "clothing;" mostly used, a some NWT.
If I had to go sans-raiments, I would never buy clothes on EBAY.
TONS of folks DO buy clothes on EBAY; I am thankful for that.

MORE and more stuff listed on EBAY is being drop-shipped DIRECTLY
    from Taipei.

Macy's, Nordstroms, Brooks Brothers, and Big&Tall have great clothes.

  • storm888 I don't like Best Buy. Had a problem with a DVD recorder after 45 days. Since it was 15 days beyond their 30 day return policy they wouldn't return it. Had to speak to the Best Buy manager who gave me a hard time but after arguing she finally exchanged it for another brand. Costco is the best. Used to be a 6 month return which was utterly ridiculous and many scam buyers took advantage so they finally changed to 90 day return which is more than reasonable.

I used to be a COST shareholder, but not currently.
