VCP questions

Ok, i am considering a trial month...first a couple questions.
Do they ever offer free trials? and if not, can i just buy a short period, like a week, to see if i even will like it?
I am looking at their interface and it seems like you have to pick a grading company and grade and then it will list only those? What if i want to see all the cards that have sold, do i have to click every one of those grade options??

Not that I've ever heard of
and if not, can i just buy a short period, like a week, to see if i even will like it?
I think one month is the minimum

If you pick a card it will show a grid that has a section for each grader, and a space for each possible grade from that grader. At a glance it will show the last realized sale price for each grade lever, but if you want to see the full list with the seller, buyer, and scan you have to click on that grade level for that grader to see it.
Always looking for Topps Salesman Samples, pre '51 unopened packs, E90-2, E91a, N690 Kalamazoo Bats, and T204 Square Frame Ramly's

Thanks for the reply...i am not sure i understand your answer...
My question is can i show all the solds of a card, (not by grade)...
example... I want to see the history of ALL solds (with one click) for a T206 cobb green portrait regardless of the grade.
I think VCP is only $9.99/month, give it a try. IMO the monthly fee is well worth the info that I have gotten. Especially if you sell. Avoiding over pricing your cards is pretty critical to sales.
ebay i.d. clydecoolidge - Lots of vintage stars and HOFers, raw, condition fully disclosed.
I see what you are asking you want to click on a button and see every sale on one page regardless of the grade. To me it does not make much sense because then you would have to look through the list to find what you need. We already sort it all out for you... After you do your search you come to a page which is what we call the grid. Here every grader and grade is listed. Now you simply click on any of the boxed and they it shows you the complete sales history for that grader and grade.
<< <i>Showing all sales of a certain card could be way to large of a list. I like how they list by grade and grading company. It really is only 1 click to see all of the prices realized for a particular grade, by a particular grading company.

The bigger the list the better. It should be sortable...you can sort by grade, price, or whatever fields are available.
So i would have to click 30 times and get 30 different screens to see many that will not show any....Who cares how big the list is, if you can sort on your choice.
If you can sort by grade and see all 40 on one screen, it seems like that type of a display would make more sense than having to
press
psa1 get one screen with 3 on it
psa 1.5 get one screen with none on it
psa 2 get one screen with 4 on it
psa 2.5 get one screen with none on it
psa 3 get one screen with 10 on it
sgc 40 get one screen with 10 on it
sgc 72 get one screen with none on it
sgc 98 get one screen with none on it
psa 5 get one screen with none on it
and pressing a total of 15 buttons...
Whatever....I guess everyone here thinks that the way they have it set up is optimal...few computer people collect baseball cards anyway...
<< <i>If there are no sales for a particular grade/grader then an N/A appears so you will know not to click that box on the grid. >>
Ok, thanks...at least that helps...
I still think it would make more sense to have a sortable screen...
THis is one of my BEST baseball websites
SAMPLE OF DATABASE WITH SORTABLE FIELDS
You can have hundreds or even thousands of entries, but if the database has sortable fields, it is easy to find what you are looking for...
One of the fields would be the "grade", another be "date sold", etc... Also this interface doesn't need to necessarily replace the existing interface, but it would help to see a "snapshot" of all solds....
nevermind...it obviously works best for those that are supporting it.
Another example, say there are 40 sold of a certain item, where there is one of each grade sold (one each of every grade and half grade of each manufacturer). Granted, this will never happen in real life, but just to demonstrate the ineffeciency of the interface.
One would have to click each grade, a total of 40 clicks, getting 40 different screens, with little cumulative data. Besides the bandwidth efficiency loss, the end user suffers as well, not having a snapshot of all 40 items in comparing the data. THey would have to write down, remember, or cut and paste all the data.
Just a thought....
For the money to me VCP does a great job probably with limited personal resources - I might be wrong but I don't think they employ 1000's of web developers.
I would rather see VCP spend more time and begin to list some more modern years!
<< <i>Do you understand what you are asking? Yahoo has a large staff developing their websites, I don't think VCP has the resources to develop database pages like you are looking for.

It's really VERY easy, and even the most novice programers know how to do it. I even created one in a few hours with the help of a few tools. Granted, I am computer literate, but not a programmer. Any $20/hr ASP programmer should be able to set them up.
<< <i>It is not the programmers we have those and yes we could do it. But the problem is we do not have the servers like yahoo does at their disposal. On our server with 50 people all doing the same thing at the same time will make everything slow. Yahoo spends a fortune for their servers to run at the speed it does and it is not in our budget for the time being. >>
That I can agree with....you will find if you make the database more efficient, your bandwidth (with less screen displays), will be more efficient as well.
Look into a free consultation, and a contract that only pays if they can improve your efficiency. I am not a programmer, but I believe ASP.NET on SQL will be a good solution (some good geeks may suggest unix and mysql but may be more difficult to manage). You shouldn't have to spend a fortune in optimizing your database and overall efficiency.
<< <i>I guess everyone here thinks that the way they have it set up is optimal. >>
I don't. I'd much rather see the kind of sortable list that you're talking about than VCP's current system of organization. That said, I think the site's still a good value at $10/month.

I don't know VCP's resources, but believe they should consider free consultation.
Here is the tool that I used in creating one, and I am not even a programmer.
I am sure that on their forums they could find some decent programmers that would love to assist. ANother option is to search "microsoft solution provider" and ASP.NET
The pictures in the report could be left out for a better snapshot (with an optional link to a picture -that would also preserve bandwidth).

I agree, but that is not a reason not to desire to improve
<< <i>i like vcp just how it is. for my needs, i look for grade specific. for example if i am looking for a 1952 topps mays #261 in psa 6, i dont care what a 1,2,3,4,5,7,8,9 sold for. i want to see just the past sales of the 6s. to me, this new idea would be counter-productive. you put too much value on one less click of the mouse, while at the same time you are concerned about spending $10 to check vcp out for a month. you mentioned you want to try it for a week. i guess for what $2.50? then you degrade them by indicating your idea for a layout is better and they should spend the $ for the manpower and bigger servers. it sounds to me that you are just trying to be a pain. what are your intentions here, starting a site with this new wonderful layout of yours? i dont think bobby should have to defend his site to you when you wont even pony up the whopping $10 for a full month, wanting a week trial instead. just my opinion. >>
1. A month trial is fine...sounds good, i will probably do it. (with my initial post, i asked if they had a week trial, not knowing a month was an option, without looking too much at their site...i was immediately withdrawn a little after seeing their interface).
2. I never suggested they spend more on servers or manpower. (I don't know how much they spend currently for programming updates or what their resources are now).
3. To me, and probably any computer literate person, the inteface is a little clunky, even by their own admission....With 50 people using it, they shouldn't experience bandwidth issues with a well designed datababase.
4. Also, if you only want 1952 topps mays #261 in psa 6, then that should be easy as well. example, if you wanted 1952 mays psa 6, you would enter those keywords, and still be able to sort on date sold or price or any other sortable field. defend it if you want, but most anyone should be able to see the itnerface could be improved on.
It was merely a suggestion

+1
Just curious, to Bobby...I would also like to know why you only offer the older stuff? Does Ebay charge by the amount of updates you get? If that was the case, I could understand. I also think that there may be as much or more demand for this type of a service with the newer stuff. The concept is good, and any suggestions I am offering should not be constrewed negatively.
Also curious, do you host on your own server(s)? It may be more cost effective to have hosted (backups, bandwidth, reliability, security etc...) especially if you have performance issues.
The idea was shot down because Bobby claimed that it would be easier for "theives" to steal their information and place it on another site.
FINISHED 12/8/2008!!!
<< <i>I also think it sounds like a great idea, however, there was a similar issue brought up a few months ago. Someone asked to get all information on one page so it was easily printable and portable for the purpose of taking to a show or whatever.

I guess I can understand that logic....
I actually joined, and looked at a few cards, and it wasn't that annoying...it was annoying, but the concept is great....glad I gave it a shot. I have an appointment, and will come back and play later....
do modern cards as well...at least rookies of the big names...
