I'm guessing those sets took some time to put together, and if he built them when they came out then he is going to lose a lot of money. Still, they should all bring decent coin.

If the sets are as sharp as he says they are i am grading them and breaking them. If not i will need to come up with a new plan...lol

Refractor and other parallel sets tend to sell for more than their breakup value, especially sets that people are likely to try and put together. I would be surprised if the 1997 Finest, 1996 and 1997 Topps Chrome, and 1996 Bowman's Best Atomic refractor sets sell for less than $400 each. The convenience of buying a whole set rather than spending 3 years scouring ebay and cardshows is worth a nice premium.

I would disagree. I think the list of people that would want a whole set is short. You get all the player collectors for the stars, some team collectors and the guys that need 5-20 cards for the set that will pay a nice premium for the dozen or so commons that they need. I got 2 e-mails right after i won the auction begging me to break the set for a bunch of commons that two guys need. If you eliminate grading from the equation then i am sure it gets a lot closer but I know if i get a few 10s on the several griffey,sandberg,ripken,mcgwire, etc refractors most of my cost will be recouped.

You shouldn't have any trouble pulling multiple 10s on this guy's stuff. I've dealt with him before and he is accurate when he states that the material is gem mint.

Maybe you're right, especially since you have a lot of player collectors as regular customers. If they grade out well you will definitely make a nice profit.

Wish I had a little more to chase the '97 Finest - ended at $725. Probably a good deal @ a little more than $2 a card.

I thought i had more time on the 97 finest, i winded up going to ac and staying overnight and missed it. I would have 100% won that set. So pissed i missed it.
