Recent eBay gamble that paid off.
Being a player collector, you'd think I'd be interested in every card released for Big Frank, but I tend to collect "on card" autographs, 90's inserts and parallels, rookies/XRCs, promotional items, and cards for the various graded projects I start.
One such set I've always enjoyed is '96 Leaf Signature Series, I and II. Thomas, having been the spokesperson for Leaf at the time, has several autographs in this set, including gold, silver, and bronze editions and two different box topper autos.
The rarest signature from this set is actually a promo item that was sent out. Most Donruss dealers received a promotional card with a preprinted autograph that has the word "facsimile" on the face.
A select few dealers received an actual on card auto. I've been after this promo for a long time and recently ran across a picture-less listing for a '96 L.S. promo. It was a vague listing, but by a seller with decent credentials, so I inquired about the card and he verified that it was indeed the on card autograph version. I've heard as few as 100 exist and as many as 500. Either way, a fairly limited signature for the time.
I bid the opening bid of $19.99 and won uncontested. A very exciting pick up for me.

I like Frank Thomas tho I don't have his sig on anything - sweet pickup at a good price IMO.
Thanx for sharing

It's minor in the scheme of things, but a great pickup for a Thomas collector.
I'll start showing off my new Clemente project as soon as it shapes up a little bit. It may be more to the tastes of the board.
As for gambling, don't gamble with mmnyc
<< <i>Amazing that you got it so cheap, even without a picture. I love finding stuff like this for next to nothing. >>
It's true, I get lucky sometimes. I remember this card selling for hundreds of dollars at one point. In fact, the team bag that it was shipped in had a price tag of $250 attached to the front. I hope that's not what the seller paid for it.
Raw: Tony Gonzalez (low #'d cards, and especially 1/1's) and Steve Young.
ebay i.d. clydecoolidge - Lots of vintage stars and HOFers, raw, condition fully disclosed.
