The Ultimate TTM quest -- yes it is Gary Carter related ~~~~ have 132 so far

OK
Here it is
This quest is by far the biggest TTM attempt I have ever thought of let alone actually try.
I am looking to get a dual signature of Gary Carter and the pitchers who surrendered each of his 324 homeruns. The players will be sent a custom picture that I created which will have a bit of info on the HR.
This was started on April 25, 2008 and here are the current results.

324 Homeruns
21 Were hit off pitchers that have passed away
303 Possible signatures out there

132 so far (43.56%)
(as of 8-26-2008)

Did you maked the custom pictures yourself? Are they pictures of the actual home run, a photo from that year, or just random pics? That was probably the most time consuming task out of everything. I wouldn't mind seeing a couple of them.

    I will start loading tonight
    They are about 5x6
If Gary hit the homerun in Canada there is a Canadian Flag in the background and if in the US an American one.
There is pic of a homeplate in the lower right corner with the number of the Homerun hit --- There is a picture of a Gary Carter card and a card of the pitcher that he hit the homer off of ~~~ The cards are in the style of the year he hit the homerun.
I included the pitchers name, his team, date and stadium
Also if Gary hit more than one in a game that is noted in the top right corner. Thats about it

Quite an undertaking, but sounds like a lot of fun! Unfortunately, I see Pete Vuckovich's name on there 3 times. Getting that guy to sign is tougher than most. Last year was the 25th Anniversary of the Brewers in the World Series and when St. Louis came to town late in the season, they invited back all of the players from the '82 team. Fans were able to get autographs from all of the players in attendance. Everyone was there. Don Sutton, Robin Yount, Paul Molitor, Gorman Thomas, Ted Simmons and on and on...and they all signed free autographs for an hour for everyone in attendance.

Vuke was there but did not make himself available for autographs for the fans. I've never tried, myself, because I've heard horror stories about him berating fans who ask.

That said, he's front office guy with the Pirates organization, so that might be a place to start.

Sorry for the doom & gloom...but I truly hope he does sign for you!

I am hoping to get all 324 signed --- but I want to get as many back signed prior to sending anything to him.

I know there will be an expense so it might take some time

My immediate challenge is to get Steve Carlton to sign the 11 (including Gary's first) -- there will be an expense there also

I finally clicked on this thread and just wanted to say that's a very neat project. Really innovative and unique. Very nice of the pitchers to sign the cards when it's "memorializing" a home run hit off of them. Great stuff!!! Good luck in your quest,

  • Like navarro, I just now clicked on this thread. What a neat TTM project! I've been thinking of one to undertake myself. I'm trying to get as many Braves sigs as possible, but beyond that I don't know what to take on. Hope you get tons of successes on this project! Cool that Jay Howell wrote a personal note about it!!! Good stuff.

I got to play with Gary when I was traded
to LA in'91 - great guy! great teammate!
and I loved pitching to him!
    Take care

    Mike,
I thought this was very funny. Great idea!!
Believe me, he let me know it too.

    Dear Michael,
I don't remeber Gary ever hitting a HR off me. Maybe so.
I'll have to look at my B.B. clippings for Montreal 1975
    Thank You

    Ron Reed

On behalf of the kids at "Camp Sunshine" thank you for the donation
    Ron Reed
(by the way, my record vs. Montreal was 14-5 in spite of these Carter home runs.)

Good to see Phil Niekro go 3/3 in one shot for you. His signing habits can be rather odd and hit-n-miss. Didja decorate the envelope and all that good stuff?
