Do you guys think this could work?

Since we're still in the process of moving, I have realized that I no longer need a lot of the modern stuff that I have collected over the years. I've donated a lot now and I still have a lot left over. The tax man said I can't go over $5,000 without some type of appraisel and I'm about about 4 right now.
So, what to do with these sets is what I asked myself. Do you all think that since I'm trying to break into vintage (Pre-War stuff) that anyone would trade some modern sets for some vintage cards over in the BST forum? Or, am I just wasting time? I would gladly trade several sets just to get my hands on a T3 or an Old Judge or something like that.
So, is it worth it? Thanks!

how many sets? I think it is always better to trade modern for vintage, you would probbaly have to make really worth someone's while to trade the other way.

I think trading would be tough, but maybe selling it at a large discount and then using the proceeds to buy what you want would work.

i believe you have to be able to show proof through receipts for what you paid for the items in order to take that deduction.

i wouldnt think that you have to show proof of what you paid for collectibles. i would assume a fair market apprisal or price guide values might work. dont quote me though i am not a cpa. maybe gregm13 might be able to chime in on this. i know he is a cpa.

My CPA said to estimate them at .04 per card. I got to about $4,000 and he told me to stop so that I don't have to get an appraisal or have the IRS knock at my door. Doesn't hurt that he's a collector too.
