What's going on with this card PSA 8 1958 Mantle. Unless my picture on the monitor is messed up this looks like a scam. Fantastic feedback, but no way. Can someone post a link.

I agree with the OPer...the card's borders look too narrow and the right edge and top left corner of the holder both appear to be frosted. It looks like it could be a crack-and-switch.

It looks like there are almost no borders. What's the centering top to bottom 40/30.

I wouldn't pay $50 for that card. That card has been trimmed everywhere. The borders are so small they are almost not there.

"You have good feedback - why risk it by selling this trimmed mantle? Did you switch it or was it like that when you got it? The right side of the holder has been opened and the borders are much smaller than they should be. "

Seller responded, bought it on ebay a month ago, seems like an ok guy who wants to do things right.

Edited to add monday morning response - doesn't sound quite so good.

before i go any further i am making a trip into portland with the card and having it examined by a friend who is an expert on these type of situations. if the card has been cracked for sure he will know in about 10 seconds. thanks again, wade.

Comparing that card next to Mikes scan, the psa 8 looks like a counterfeit. The scan could be causing some of the off color and graininess, but I'm not convinced. Holder is definitely frosted. Borders do look short, but the odd thing is you would expect that the size of the card would fall short of the edges in the holder, yet they do not. I was going to overlay the psa 6 of Mikes and the psa 8 to see where they come apart so to speak. Proportionately, they just don't look right. IMO, the first Mantle is counterfeit, not trimmed.

I can guarantee that card is a fake. Calling it trimmed is giving it too much credit.

Previous seller currently has a 1963 PSA 9 Mantle for sale that looks trimmed too. I pulled out a PSA 5 and there was a noticeable difference.

Wade, the guy who is selling the card now, closed the auction early today. He was going to take it to someone he trusted to look at it for a 2nd opinion. The guy must have told him it was no good.

I remember Plifter being heartbroken at a possibly trimmed card for $3000. Can't imagine finding out I bought a fake card for $1800.

One day one of these scammers is going to burn the wrong guy and get killed over it. There's a lot of psychos out there.

A card that looks that bad I would not need a second opinion. Why would he have purchased a $2000 + card and not know this? Something doesn't smell right. Also, if the card seemed good to him why was it purchased and sold in the first place. And yes, the card looks more fake then trimmed.

Just heard back from this guy, I guess he found people who know more than we do. The card measures right, the borders are thin because of the way it was cut (!!), and the holder is frosted because the glue dried that way.

Back on ebay again

Buyer rosie7495 got positive feedback, I'm guessing they ignored my warning that the card was fake. $2350 for a counterfeit card.

I wish somebody knew rosie7495 and could suggest maybe sending it in for a bump. Wonder how that would work out.
