Random card notes from the top o me head 1970 Kelloggs

1970 Kelloggs 3d cards were overproduced. Maybe cereal did not sell well in 1970 but I would lean towards overproduction. In 1971 the cards were re-issued with an iron on- 6 cards and one iron on for 69 cents, Since Topps cards were selling fot 10 cents at the time with a stick of gum this issue at the time was a flop. I remmember seeing these at a show in Cincy in 1993 for 5 bucks each and wish I had scooped them all up. These sell on Ebay today for about 50 per depending on who is showing on top. So some re-packs are real and affordable. Once in a whille blankbacks cut from the box show up on Ebay. Any Kelloggs collectors out there with info?????

  • I don't remember the 6 cards with the iron on, interesting. Thanks

Mike, Great post. This is exactly the kind of posts I was hoping would start. I have a start on the 70 Kelloggs football set. I just found the cards had great eye appeal. Some HOFer's, stars and PSA 9's are very
affordable. Probably because as you said, over produced. But that's not too bad for a collector on a budget.

Maybe some other set experts can take Mike's lead and start a post on their favorite sets. Some history and a few scans to get the ball rolling.

  • The 1970 Kelloggs set was one of the first I ever decided to complete because of the gorgeous eye appeal. Still some of my favorite cards to look at.....but yes, the set is easy to complete since it was also possible to buy a complete set directly from Kelloggs (this is the case with all sets except the 71 set, BTW).

I agree that the 1970 Kellogg's set is one of the most appealing of the era. I doubt I'll ever collect more than a few singles, but here the two I have right now:
