2008 Topps Heritage BUYBACK set - 1959 Topps

Hello again, I am still on my quest for the 2008 Topps Heritage 1959 Topps Buyback set. For a while I was making good progress, however things have slowed considerably lately.

My question is how did Topps "buy-back" these 1959 cards? I have been watching the boards and all auctions for several months now and I have only seen 1 #10 Mantle and 1 #50 Mays and no other big stars at all. I have only 1 of the high numbers (507-572) and have not seen any others. I am begining to wonder if this set is even possible. If Topps did not purchase complete sets but rather just large lots, then there may not even be a complete set available even if you had every card they bought back.

Any thoughts or does anybody have any insight to how Topps bought these cards back for insertion into the Heritage packs?

Oh, and by the way, this is my Want List:

It's strange how there have been no details released on this. When Heritage came out, there were tons of buybacks on eBay, then all of a sudden they dried up and we were never provided with print run info or value. I considered doing the Red Sox team set since there would be no major stars, but all of the Red Sox dried up and I only snagged two of them. Does anyone have inside info on how this set works?

Tony, good questions, I have about 240 different cards from the set and about 150 duplicates. I have been watching ALL auctions looking for these cards. I do not believe Topps inserted complete sets... getting pop reports from them may never happen.

early on I contacted Clay Luraschi at topps. He is the VP of sales I believe. He told me that there were multiple copies insertsed
of all the stars, and while he never said multiple copies of each card, I only assumed that was the case. We now know better, heritage
is WIDELY opened and there is no reason why we wouldn't see high number cards on ebay if they did in fact exist. Still a nice set to
    chase!

Here is what I have. Looking for autos and black refractors first and then other stuff.

I also noticed that a few of these have much lighter backs than the othes....is this a variation?
