Take me out to the ballgame - I'm just about ready to write this up UPDATE!

Well, I've been compiling information for 3 yrs now on the song. I know this isn't gonna get too much play - but it's something I'm passionate about - and I hope to write an article for the HOF and perhaps SCD or Beckett mag. down the road.
Let's face it - take me out to the ballgame is the "Anthem" of ML baseball!
As I've reported - the HOF says there's 11 variations of this song - based on whose picture's on the cover.
Well - I just picked up a new variation and that makes 17 I've got and I've catalogued 20 to date!
For those who haven't read - as ya know Jack Norworth wrote the song while riding the subway - saw a broadside for a Giants game - had never gone to a ML game - took all of 15 minutes. The original is in the HOF.
Interesting thing - of the 20 I have catalogued, 2 people show up twice - Sam Williams - this one - and another where he's standing and Trixie Friganza - one portrait - one holding an umbrella.

Thanx for taking the time to view.

Yes Nick.
Jack wrote the lyrics - this was during the Vaudeville period - they performed in an area of NYC called Tin Pan Alley.
He had a friend - Albert Von Tilzer who wrote the music that accompanies the song.

I'll be making a complete collage of all pics this weekend for my file - I'll post a link since it will eat the screen.
Thanx for asking.

BOTH of my parents used to sing it to me when I was a mini-ute.
The other three I recall were:
"Easter Parade"
"Home On The Range"
"Dinah Blow Your Horn"
As an adult, I do not recall a day that my father was NOT caught whistling "Take Me Out To The Ball Game," at least once.

any idea when the song was first performed/played at a major league ballpark ?

I can only give what I read from the net.
It depends on who's telling the story - my best guess?
In the early 70s, Harry Caray sang it aloud in the booth during the 7th inning stretch. Owner of the White Sox Bill Veeck overheard his enthusiasm and marginal talent - hid a microphone in the booth so people could hear him and the rest is history.
The earliest know superstar to sing the song was Bill Murray who made it a number one hit in 1908.

<< <i>Awesome research, Mike.
Thanx for the kind words Stown and to everyone - I know I'm the odd one out here in what I collect and I appreciate the encouragement.
If ya can't share - part of the hobby is missing for me - after all - my wife could give a hoot about this stuff!

"when your love for collecting knowledge overtakes your need to accumulate, you have got it made"
I found another! That makes #21 on my list of which I now have 18!
I found - Marion Wilder.
The seller referenced two singers - Fink and Williams and that this one was kind of rare - I'm not gonna contradict him - but I guess there's a few more?
Variations on a theme? Ya gotta love it!

Last Sunday (May 11) --- there is a baseball show on the local radio here in New York (WFAN 660) hosted by Ed Randall --- he had on 2 men that wrote or were writing a book about the history of "Take me out to the ballgame" -- I have contacted the radio station to see if I could get the names of the 2 men and if they also had a transcript
will let you know
