Was there ever a 1954 Topps Mickey Mantle?

I've been searching and haven't found one.

    No.

    mike

edit: as you know he was in the Bowman set that year since he signed an exclusieve contract with them. Now - to be accurate - Topps did produce a fantasy card of sorts that was in the #2 issue of Sports Illustrated - it was black and white.

No auto on that fantasy card. You could find it in the paperstock cutout section of Ebay lol

What's with the action pose on that SI "card"?

It looks like he either fouled a pitch off his left foot image, or it's an incredibly lame-looking bunt attempt! image

Although Topps did not release a Mantle card as part of its regular set, they did produce a black & white Mickey Mantle card printed on paper stock instead of the normal card stock. The black & white Mantle card was produced for Sports Illustrated magazine in 1954. SI wanted to insert a complete Yankees team card set in SI issue number 2. The black & white paper cards were not limited to Mickey alone. Topps manufactured black & white paper cards for a number of players who did not have regular cards issued that year.
