PSA 9 Mantle Auction

Does these two Mantles look legit? The PSA 8 looks like it has a trimmed border and the PSA 9 looks too off centered.

Also does it look like the bottom edge has been cracked?

The borders are much too narrow and they look like reprints. Avoid them.

He's right - the font looks wrong on the numbers.

Some of his latest feedback shows some suspect activity as well. If anything, the feedback puts up a red flag to me that the guy may not be of the best character. Looks like 2 people got jerked around, but who knows, there is always 2 sides to every story.

Stan - I thought the same thing. A guy just bought 2 Unitas RCs for almost $1500 combined and left good feedback.

I may just pass on these two Mantles. All this talk about fakes is making me PARANOID!

I hear ya. I would be a bit too worried to buy from him.

At this point, I would want to stay on the safe side and pass, but that is just me.

Be careful, bud. I don't like to see anyone get taken. With this situation, you just never know, but there is some cause to be leary.

I don't think they are reprints but I would personally avoid. Something is obviously not right.

There is no way the top and bottom borders on that 58 can be that thin and be legit.

And how can someone with a PSA 9 Mantle not know how to do a decent scan?

1. I really can't tell much from the photos , which If I were selling something like these two cards I would make sure I did have decent photos up.

2. From what I can see and from what I have seen of other PSA 9's
I would leave these alone .

3. I am surprised E-Bay does not have a zoom feature for photos by now, basically it has become scam central where a few bad apples spoil the bunch .

4. If these cards were found to be fraudulant /cards just slipped inside of PSA 9 holders , shouldn't PSA be able to go after the person with legal action of some kind ?

It seems that is all I hear now I'd be afraid to purchase anything from E-Bay .

My nephew was sent payment for some car parts that he sold on E- Bay , certified check , well he cashed the check and now he is being sued , something about the account was not a real account , But how the hell is the check certified , or how was he able to cash it if it wasn't a real account , So now not only is he out his car parts , but he is fighting a legal battle on top of it .

You shouldn't have to worry about stuff like this and if it happened to me, I would go ballistic .

As for me , I would only use a reputable auction house , I don't have the time, patience nor the temperment to dispute anything .

The size of the scans are worrisome for such high grade cards. I make it a practice to avoid items like these, but there seems to be no shortage of people willing to bid on them.

I got burned once on a cracked and switched 1959 Topps Mantle PSA 7. I went through the long Paypal process to get my money back. It cost me quite a bit to get back my money since I had to send the card to PSA first for an opinion and then had to send it back to the seller. The seller claimed he didn't know it was switched, but I think he was just passing on his mistake.

That is the problem with these fakes, they start getting circulated in the hobby.

Yup.

Cards are headed the way of stamps.

In the 1980s, I warned that the stamp business was under assault
and would be destroyed, IF action was not taken. Nobody paid
much attention; today the pool of expensive stamps is so poisoned
by counterfeits that ONLY the best and most experienced experts
can help collectors to buy/sell safely.

It is really best to ONLY buy expensive cards from the most trustworthy
auction houses, or from experts that you have done business with before.

If PSA would simply become active in EBAY's VeRO scheme, almost all of
the suspect PSA-slabs listed on EBAY could be removed within minutes.

VeRO faciltates listing removals "pending an investigation of the facts."
The "facts" are easy to ascertain and NO honest sellers need to be
harmed in the process. If the suspect item is cleared, it is relisted.

I constantly get VeRO-slapped in fashion and electronics. It is just
part of doing business in those categories. CLCT should take advantage
of the process.

I believe that would be called an anagram .

I used to get into a little trouble in school for writing in the books , changing the words in the book to tell a different story , So I never really understood the original lesson

Teachers used to send me to the principal and the principal sent me to the guidance counselor and they sent me to a shrink and they determined that I had something called "Apophenia "

I notice patterns and connections in all kinds of things , the only problem is I like to write it down and in their books
