Hi, new guy here

Just wanted to introduce myself. I've been lurking for a while and have learned quite a bit, so I thought it would only be fair for me to join and reciprocate, though my knowledge is still very limited. There seems to be a group of very good guys here.
Like many others, I collected back in the late 80's and early 90's, then took a long hiatus. I only got back into the hobby last May, thanks to my discovery of this site called Ebay. I decided I would try to put together my all-time favorite set, 1957 topps baseball. I had no idea how difficult or expensive it would be, and had I known, I might have held off. But I started, and now there's no turning back. I'm sure my story is not unique.
I look forward to my time here and hope to become a contributing member of this forum.
Regards

Welcome here and back to the hobby!
Sometimes my wife wished I had left! I keep telling her it's money well spent! Right?
Good luck on the 57T set - it's a favorite around here - are you doing it graded?
My recommendation? Don't get caught up in it and go all OCD.
I think of doing a set like a marathon rather than a sprint.
Further advice? Keep that focus and not run all over the place - establish a budget and STICK to it! That will eliminate pain, regrets, night sweats and heart palpitations!
Don't be a stranger - I'm looking forward to your pickups - if ya need any help with scan and posting - don't hesitate to ask.

Raw: Tony Gonzalez (low #'d cards, and especially 1/1's) and Steve Young.

You will have to forgive me as I am sort of a Luddite; I just got high speed a few months ago...I don't know how to put up links... I don't even own a scanner, which I will rectify shortly as I greatly enjoy scans of all the great cards members share, so it's only fair if I do the same. It will take me a while to get up to speed and I will certainly be asking for a lot of advice.

Where life is beautiful all the time.
Hey Keith, glad you finally showed up, we were begining to worry.
I had no idea when I started this set last year just how popular it is. Good for me in that graded cards are plentiful, but bad in that prices are high, especially when it's a card I need.

The 1957 set is one of my favorites, too. My first vintage purchases as a 13-year old collector were a Warren Spahn and a Don Newcombe from that set. Good luck with it!

<< <i>I've read several books about baseball in the fifties and imagine it would have been a great time to be a baseball fan...especially 1955 for Dodgers' faithful. >>

Stories about the Dodgers in Brooklyn are a favorite of mine.
Most recently on HBO - coverage of the Lords of Flatbush - very well done.
Again - good luck on the set.

As for the dedication it takes to complete a graded '57T set, I salute you.
I haven't gotten brave enough to attempt such an expensive project yet. I have a rust bucket of a '69 Camaro that is a money drain enough. One day it will be complete and then maybe I'll be able to take a swing at such a feat.
I have learned quite a bit about the hobby since joining not too long ago,now it is my favorite forum of all .
Enjoy .
