Do you think this 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle SGC 70 has any chance of crossing over to a PSA 5? PSA 6? Centering looks quite nice. Looks nearly 50/50 L/R and at least 60/40 T/B.

<< <i>You'd think the seller would have a larger scan for such a prolific card. >>
Agreed. I'm a HUGE fan of prolific cards. There's nothing like putting two '52 Mantles in a top loader and having them reproduce overnight! And people wonder how I made my millions....

Boo, being smarter than other people is a blessing (don't read too much into the word), nothing more. I know you are only kidding around and I am quite certain that Nick can dish it as well as anyone; I personally feel you have become far too quick on the trigger with the caustic remarks. Sarcasm, though often times bitingly funny, is a tool to be used with much discretion. I am not trying to provoke a debate here; I am just offering my opinon for your consideration. Unfortunately, when I read a post of yours these days, I immediately anticipate the emergence of a cynical attitude or a wisecrack. In fact, I see a veritable caricature of what you likely wish to portray...somewhat ironically, this is just the sort of thing that you frequently intend to mock, I should think. Consistenly demonstrating the superior ability to belittle others is not a virtue. Again, this is simply one man's opinion. Take it for what it is worth.
Personally, I do not even think it is a 5.5 given the upper right corner.
I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.
What a beauty! I don't know if it has a chance at a 6, but that card is dripping with eye appeal. I would buy it before I would pay double the money for a higher graded offering with poor centering.

I don't get it. I find NOBODY bringing up this point. When PSA started this .5 thing, it was made very clear (you can read it in your SMR or on this website in the grading standards) that a .5 grade WAS NOT a half way point to the next grade. Here is a quote from the grading standards from this very website -
"Cards that exhibit high-end qualities within each particular grade, between PSA Good 2 and PSA Mint 9, may achieve a half-point increase. While PSA graders will evaluate all of the attributes possessed by a card in order to determine if the card may be eligible, there will be a clear focus on centering."
It said that there will be a CLEAR FOCUS ON CENTERING. In my humble opinion, that Mantle is definitely a PSA 5.5 . Of course, I say some of my recent 1976 Topps were .5's too, but I didn't get a single one.

Yes -- cenetering is important. But it is not just a centering thing. The upper right corner keeps it from a cross, in my mind.

Are you thinking about buying the card or just asking for an opinion? Buy the card and crack it out!

Okay, back to the insanity of grading!!!!!
Steve
It's really hard to say from the scan. My guess - it's not a 6.
But still - it's a beauty - and wish I had picked one up when it was a strain but not a drain.
