Overgraded PSA card purchase
I purchased the card below on eBay a month or two ago. It is a mint 9, or so the label says. I was getting ready to list the card since Sheets has been pitching well and noticed numerous indentations on the reverse side of the card. One is considerably deep and long. The upper left corner on the back also has factory roller marks. It would appear PSA hired Stevie Wonder but even Stevie could feel this gouge. My scanner cannot pick up the intentations on the reverse side and they are barely discernable in a digital photo... but are most certainly there. There is no way the card is mint. A surface flaw this substantial is almost as bad a crease which could knock the overall grade to a 6. Does PSA still have the buyback guarantee?

Your desire NOT to sell a card with a potential problem is admirable.

A PSA Mint 9 is a superb condition card that exhibits only one of the following minor flaws: a very slight wax stain on reverse, a minor printing imperfection or slightly off-white borders. Centering must be approximately 60/40 to 65/35 or better on the front and 90/10 or better on the reverse.
NM-MT 8: Near Mint-Mint.
A PSA NM-MT 8 is a super high-end card that appears Mint 9 at first glance, but upon closer inspection, the card can exhibit the following: a very slight wax stain on reverse, slightest fraying at one or two corners, a minor printing imperfection, and/or slightly off-white borders. Centering must be approximately 65/35 to 70/30 or better on the front and 90/10 or better on the reverse.
<< <i>I'd be careful if I were you. There are some people on this board that insist PSA never screws up and if you question PSA's judgement you will be flamed to death. >>
I'm sure the OP appreciates such a constructive post. You're pretty much doing the same thing you're condemning. I think you'd be hard pressed to find anyone that thinks PSA NEVER screws up since pretty much every company in the history of companies has/does. Malicious overstatements are as bad as malicious sarcasm. I think what you may be referring to is the constant defending of PSA required to fend off all of the flammers that come here from other grading companies only to try and convince all of us to distrust PSA which is both futile and sad. I prefer to play outside.

How can you say that with any certainty when you yourself have never felt it?

Sure, all grading companies have shown some flaws here and there. Well, except for GAI. They always get it right.
