That's the thing about flea markets and yard sales these days, sellers there act like it's a live version of ebay or something. I've gone to these large weekend flea markets and stuff before and got haggled with the excuse, well I could get more for it on ebay. I'm like, well then, list it on ebay. I remember when you could go to these things and never worry about that kind of stuff. Those days are gone. I'm just glad to see that you came away with something nice. I have yet to go to any yard sale or flea market and see one of these descently priced.
You're crazy, or just insanely spoiled in the world of card collecting. That card is awesome, congrats! >>
You weren't absorbing the information - bought from an "old dealer friend" but yet that card is ungraded? Don't worry about it - it's a beater, probably altered or beatup in some way for it not to be graded...but I clearly stated it's still a nice card.

Also could have a filled in pinhole. Nothing gets by these guys "antiques mall with permanant booths" - there's a reason that card isn't graded, either because it won't grade or it's a 1. Hope I'm wrong.
Oh, cool. That clears it up. Yeah, we've got a few of those around here in Indy. I think one's called Gilley's or something like that. I collect Man From UNCLE stuff too and I've been able to find a lot of rare gems there. Those are great places. I like those kinds of flea markets. It's the one's that are like on the weekends in arena's and convention centers that bug the crap out of me.

I was at a Flea Market yesterday and I was looking at a couple of large boxes of football. Some were marked at $1.00 and the others were 3/$1.00. Nothing great, but fun to go through. I asked the guy if he wanted to make me a deal on the whole lot. He looked at me like I was crazy. Oh well, I didn't need them that bad anyway.
Oh I fully agree - Buying baseball cards, even busting packs, and taking a shot at something good sure beats blowing money at online poker and other sucker gambling games any day of the week.
<< <i>Steve- there are alot of old dealers who would NEVER consider grading a card. I know a couple local ones who view card grading as destroying the card. >>
Maybe the "old dealers" you know are different from the ones I know. The old dealers I know who say and do that are absolute weasels....they have "the story" and the "sales pitch" down pat, all perfectly presented like the clever weasels they are, but the bottom line is they know the precise value of their cards and they certainly know about grading and definitely would send the cards off to be graded if they felt it would make them greater profits - and this isn't even debatable.
I remember back in 1992, there was a lady who had loads of them at a little weekend thing I used to do with my son.
While we were busy selling all kinds of 92L black parallels, 92UD Homerun heroes and 92F Ultra inserts - her cards just languished under her neatly arranged display case.
Did he have others? What's his asking prices like? Are ya gonna get it graded?

Nice card and story. You should be able to get $400 to $450 at auction for it, but im wondering what the flea market dealer wanted for the card? I believe that the high beckett value for that card is $3,000 so I cant imgaine that he asked for less than $300 for it.

Nice card, good price (my opinion anyway), I'd love to pick up something like that at an antique mall. Where's the negative guy now, he'll probably claim it was overgraded by the evil SGC.
Comments
what would that be a 2-3?
<< <i>a beater, but still a nice card. >>

Also, I might send it into SGC - the black matting really shows off the yellow background.
edited to add: Flea market is not a good description of this place, more of an antiques mall with permanant booths.
