My New Project - it's Non-Sport - but since it Saturday nite I thought it would be fun to show - Sci

Hope that's OK guys.

How many liked going to the Saturday Matinee when you were a kid?

It was the best! Especially in the winter when it was too cold to do anything anyways.

So, my project - collect the Lobby Cards from those Sci-Fi - Horror and Thriller movies! Of course mine would be mostly 50s - early 60s. I mean think of the movies that scared the pants off ya? What could be cooler?

Here's one from 1957 - The Giant Claw.

Now - lobby cards typically come 11x14" in a set of 8 - the #1 or header card usually is the best with graphics - and this one is #1.

image

It's too large to fit the scanner but you can see alot of the graphics.

I now have 5.

Another cool one?

I Married a Monster from Outer Space! Also 1958.

image

And last - I Was a Teenage Frankenstein - 1957.

image

Randy may remember some of these movies from when he was a kid?

So - what do ya think?

    No problem Steve.

Here's a lobby card - with Billy Gray's auto - guy says it's a real card and auto - it's not like Gray's auto is in high demand - so I wouldn't be surprised if it's real?

Some are harder to find than others - I just started this project about 2 months ago.

A few "Them" lobbies have been from Mexico - I want to find a nice one in English.

I do have my eye on this one: Attack of the Puppet People.

    Here ya go Randy.

Vincent Price in Return of the Fly.

I paid 10 bucks for this after a refund - it may be a really good reprint - neither the seller nor I know for sure. I sent it to a good seller who wasn't 100% sure.

    Still very nice.

    image

If it real? It's in pristine shape - BTW - under a 10X loupe - the solid print doesn't turn to photo dots - it's just very light printing - could be a laser copy?

One of my favorites was Queen from Outer Space. and if not mistaken Zsa Zsa Gabor was in it.....her and her sister Eva were two of the hotties back then.....not to change the topic but it always cracked me up when Eva would be talking about her husband Mr. Douglas in Green Acres....
  • Still have not found the one from The Gauntlet. I did find this poster from the 1954 re-release.

I love the classic sci-fi / horror movies, not the blood-n-gut slasher movies of today. The Tingler scared the heck out me when I was a kid. And The Fly was creepy - "help me, help me" .

I agree, give me one of the old time movies that were based on suspense building over the current genre any day....be realistic, how many times does one need to see someone sliced, diced or otherwise mangled like some of the current movies.......

my all time favorite: Play Misty for Me. now she was evil

Here's Steve (Winpitcher's) The Day the Earth Stood Still.

When I was young - it was really scary - especially the sound effects. Today? My wife in the morning before makeup is more scary! image

And here's another - Creature with the Atom Brain! - 1955.

This stuff is so campy - I could see people going every Fri nite to a small theater dressed up as their favorite "atom brain." Funny stuff.

    image

But the lobby cards are pretty cool tho.

some rainy saturday afternoon on channel 9 in the mid 60's.

<< <i>Awesome stuff! Great pics, thanks for sharing. >>

    Thanx Perk!

Now the next one is a bit larger than the normal lobby card - usually they're 11x14" - this one is 13X16" - it was from Mexico but in English which is very unusual.

    I saw this movie when I was a kid - Kronos. - 1957.

The thing that makes these cool is the experience - ya gotta think 9 yrs old - dark movie theater on a Saturday! Was anything better?

    image

Thanx for viewing and the input - it makes this so much more fun to be able to share it.

Perhaps some of you will consider picking up some of the movies that scared the crap outa you back when?

The problem is that Lobby Cards are no longer made since the "multiplex" era - these were made for the lobby area and the enclosed windows outside the "single" theater to entice people walking by to come in and see the movie.

I went on ebay and did a search for these cards and was suprised at how many were available, a bit pricey but they are really neat! These films were before my time but I do love the 50's and early 60's stuff, the imagination behind the artwork is awesome!

I agree some can cost ya.

I buy the cheapies at around 20 bucks - but the "Claw" one - because it was the #1 cost me about 100 bucks!

I'm recapturing my childhood with these lobby cards - so I'm willing to spend a few quid on this.

Still way cheaper than my T3 collecting! image
