OT: Anyone Else Gearing Up For The L.A. Marathon?

I just completed my final training run. Just wondering, is anyone else gearing up for the L.A. Marathon next Sunday?

    Yes.

    I ran a 5K in 25 minutes, 45 seconds this morning.

    I think I'm ready.

    Where do I show up?

  • Why does it seem like people who have run a marathon before have a superiority complex? They think they have the right to talk down to me because while they're out running, all I do is sit on the couch watch TV, drink beer and eat delicious Cheetohs and Hot Pockets and those little pizza eggroll things. You know what I'm talking about, it's a little fried looking nugget with pepperoni and mozzarella cheese inside. They're great dipped in marinara sauce. I like those and I like the mini corndogs too with curly fries and ketchup. Gotta be Heinz ketchup though, no other brand will do. What was I talking about again?

edited for spelling because I'm an idiot.

    LOL
Never heard of that brand, but have heard of Heinz image
My personal favourite, it's called a poutine
Just before every marathon, Greasy French Fries covered with curd cheese all topped off with thick brown gravy , add to that a side order of onion rings and a steamed hot dog

The chick I'm dating did the New Orleans marathon this morning. Only one of her friends has that "I'm better than you" attitude but the rest don't even mention it.

Well, other than when I ask how many miles she ran on a particular day (however, to her credit, it's more of a passing comment more than anything)..

"I only ran 15 miles this morning"

If I only ran 15 miles in one day, I would be in the hospital shortly thereafter.
So basically my kid won't be able to go to college, but at least I'll have a set where the three most expensive cards are of a player I despise ~ CDsNuts

Just look for a fat guy jumping in at Mile 25--that'll be meimage
  • A marathon is actually a fun run, it's when you try to hard that it becomes a tremendous strain. Runners you'll see; paraplegics, family groups, DAVs, 80 year olds, amputees, folks with cancer, diabetes, people running for cures etc etc. They're smiling, talking, laughing, singing and finishing. Rarely if ever, will you find a boastful marathoner, it's quite humbling. The energy of the crowd drags your fat butt along, it's surreal. I've finished some (since age 40) and at times, I was so far behind I thought I was in first place.

    I recommend you try it, you can be ready to finish a slow 26.2 miler in about 18 weeks;
    18 week pgm

Dad pushes his adult son 26.2 every Boston. These guys, the Hoyts, have been running it for over 25 years. One time, they passed me around the 12 mi mark -I appreciated the inspiration.

    I agree...

If I head out the door right now and go for the 26 miles - it'll take me about 18 weeks.
