Why I like my cards RAW....

...because it's much easier to display them nicely!!!

I have all of these, as well as four displays using 4-card horizontal holders (1958 Topps All-Stars Mantle, Mays, Aaron, Williams; 1963 Topps Koufax, Aaron, Clemente, Mays; 1965 Topps Koufax, Aaron, Clemente, Rose; 1964 Philadelphia FB Unitas, Brown, Tarkenton, Tittle) and a 9-card display of my 1961-1969 McCovey's which I need to photograph, since they don't fit in my scanner.

Enjoy....

  • Looks like you got jipped on some screws, huh?

Nice displays though. I used to have a couple of those myself
  • Nope....the empty screw holes are for the nails I use to hang the displays on my walls!
  • Nice displays with some nice cards in there!!! I don't know what it is, but I have a "thing" for graded cards. I have thousands raw, but I selectively pick cards for grading for numerous reasons. I was toying with the idea of a similar display technique for graded cards. Does anyone know if they make any? I work for a process equipment distributor and I know of a couple companies that I could probably have some custom displays made, but I haven't got any specs or pricing yet (and honestly I'm a long way off from having time to do that).

Another thing I wondered: What do people do with there huge sets (like a 660 card topps set) that are all graded? Just box em up and look at pics of them on the registry? Just curious.

  • The displays I use are from Ultra-Pro. They make 2-card, 3-card, 4-card, 6-card, and 9-card holders. I don't know of any way to display large groups of graded cards except by finding a local carpenter to custom make something for you.
  • Very nice displays. What type of room are you going to be hanging your cards in? I always worry about sunlight fading cards which are out in the open over time.

  • Some are in my home office, some in our family TV room, neither of which get any direct sunlight.

    Those look real nice

I have one of those 6 card holders and man was it tough to get all 6 cards to stay still while I put the top back on them. Took about 10 times to get it. Everytime, the air would shift one of them out of the little recess they are supposed to be sitting in. I wanted to throw the whole damn thing out the window by the time I was done with it LOL
  • 11235813 you like all of us just love card collecting which we all did with the raw cards previous to the grading phenomenon. I still have quite a few cards ungraded that I enjoy collecting and displaying. Thanks for sharing your collection.

    VERY nice displays.

I would HARDLY call those cards "raw."

They are encased in plastic; a different kind of slab, but still a plastic slab. Just like graded cards are.

Your slabs solve one of my concerns: protect the card.
But, grading staisfies me that I correctly judged value
when I bought the card. PSA slabs meet both those needs.

Those dogs need to remain raw.
They wouldn't grade out. Must be nice to live in a dream world.

Hey - got a linky-do on a site that sells the holders?

    Bob
  • Bob,

They are Ultra-Pro holders, so I imagine you can get them on the Ultra-Pro website (www.ultrapro.com).

I get them from my local card shop. They are about $2-5 each, depending on size.

On the graded? A good way to go also.

What do you mean by "

<< <i>On the graded? A good way to go also >>

    "?

To the best of my knowledge, there is no ready-made product (like the Ultra-Pro holders I use) available to display groups of graded cards.

Also, with graded cards you have the visual the distraction of the flips which detracts from the overall display.

I like the flips. For someone that may not be into cards, but know who great players are, they can see the issue and year (plus the grade). I think the flip actually adds to display value. But that's just my opinon of course. To each his (or her) own. image

Nice cards, especially the Gale Sayers card. I live about a mile from the business Sayers owns, appropiately name "Sayers". He use to sign autographs for free via his company but now charges a nominal fee.

I mean - for those who like graded cards and how "they" display - is just as attractive - to them.

With all due respect - I've told you this before - you like ungraded cards - I get it - I get it - I get it and I get it.

How many threads will you need to make that point? 50?

    Mike - I get it - Stone193 - I get it.

    Your statement

And I'm glad to know I wasn't the only one to see the irony of bashing slabbed cards while proudly displaying raw cards encased in screwdowns.

  • Uh...Stown....you've missed my point (as usual).

Unless I'm missing something, the is no product available that allows you to display GROUPS of graded cards together like I have done with my raw cards. Sure, you can have a carpenter custom build you shelving, but that doesn't change the fact that each individual graded card still remains in its own separate holder, apart from any other cards you might care to group it with.

Truth be told, I'm amazed that nobody (PSA included) has developed any holders or other structures to enable people to display groups of graded cards together. I would think that there would be a pretty large market for such products.

Allstate Mfg. will build you any type of wall case
that you want to display slabbed/graded cards.

Even their stock models have inserts that allow
for building great displays. They look similar to
the wall cases you see in coin stores, but the
inserts are made to fit slabbed cards.

Do you use them to display your graded cards?

If so, would love to see some pics....

They make cases for large groups of cards 30+ and I have them - See the Show your Collection thread. I agree something for a smaller amount would be nice, but its not like you can't display graded cards.

Nice looking cards by the way!!!
  • Checked out the other thread and saw your wood cases. They look really nice!

Where did you get them? I do have a few graded cards (as well as quite a few cards in screw downs) that I would like to display in a case like the ones you have.

No, you didn't get the point (as usual).

And just as an FYI - CU (and other TPGs) thank you in advance for creating a thread; regardless of content.

While I understand you intentions of purchasing "raw" cards on eBay, this thread completely defeats your purpose.

See, every time you create a thread, view one, or even log in, you are putting money in CU's pocket.

    Ironic, eh?
