Update - New PSA Labels – A Message from the President
All newly PSA graded cards, will exhibit the new style labels so hobbyists can distinguish between cards graded before and after the change
Great idea.

IMO it just lowers the value of any newly graded NON .5 card...Those will now be considered "low end" and not bump worthy...
No more crack and resubs of older slabs for me...ONLY reviews....That way, the only way I get the new holder is if the card is going up either .5 or a full grade...

Jason, without cracking and resubmiting are you giving up the possibility of a full point grade swing? It is my understanding that any card sent in for a review would just get a 1/2 point swing up or am I wrong?
It could create a feeding frenzy of older labeled cards as people might view them as possible regrading candidates.
<< <i>I like it as a collector, if I was trying to maximize my money as dealer probably not so much.

Incorrect. Cards deserving of full grade bump will still get just that.
I agree with your assessment that the older flips will now be in higher demand. Thus new flips without the .5 will be in less demand. If you crack and resub, you will lose money UNLESS it goes up the .5 or full grade. Equal grade and you loose money.
I won't be popping any of my old flip holders anymore...

Just yesterday you showed us cards that did not get the bump, they were beautiful.
I assume cards like that will still be graded and not get a .5 grade.
So how does this make them low end?
You lost me.
It is still the card folks, the grade is just an opinion.
Buy the card not the holder remains true here.
Steve
There have been several thread on this forum over the last few months noting how easy it is to make fake flips that are very difficult to detect.

<< <i>I think everybody is GUESSING on what the effect will be. Give it a year or so and then let's talk. >>
This is definitely 'post of the month' material. I couldn't agree more.
I suspected it was coming though. Oh well. My fondness for PSA has certainly taken a solid hit in the past couple of months.

Well, they are still in the "old holder" at least, so now will be priced as PSA 8.25's...lol
With the "new style" flip, IMO a PSA 8 will be considered not bump worthy by the average collector. Unfortunately, not everyone subscribes to the theory of buying the card and not the holder.
When the new half grade system was announced, everyone was afraid their cards would drop in value..This is an attempt to appease those collectors...Hey, for me, my "old style" 8's like the ones that didn't bump just got a boost in value..That's the bright side for me, and everyone else with cards in the old flips no matter if they are high end or low end...
The only real affect it has on me is that I will no longer crack and resub ANYTHING in the old style flip. The only way to gain value doing it is if the card gets a minimum of a .5 upgrade, and the downside is if you crack an old 8, and it comes back a new flip 8, it will sell for less in most case... Why wouldn't it?
Just my opinion of course...Reviews or bust!
Jason
Edited to add: I agree, this is sheer speculation...I mean we could enter the great depression part 2 starting tomorrow and cards would become virtually worthless a year from now...I think its safe to say old flips will be worth more than new flips in the same grade. How much more is the speculation...

Well then that is there problem, and you would be surprised they are in the minority.

You know you're right Steve..I have changed my mind on this...I TOTALLY AGREE with everything said here regarding the change...In fact, I'm elated...It makes my decisions much easier down the road..Crack and resub or review? Review..
Thanks PSA!

I never said I was right, I simply am not buying any argument
until I see for myself what happens.
Part of this is seeing with my own eyes cards you yourself sent in and they did not get the bump.
Again, surely those same cards or similar ones, could have been sent in next week raw and gotten the same straight grade.
You will do whatever you feel is best for you as I will for me.

Agreed...I was giving my opinion and I stick by it...If those same cards came back in a new holder with a straight, non .5 grade, 80% of the buyers out there will want to get extra, over the top, additional looks at the card before spending top dollar on it, because the belief that there must be SOME reason that card was not considered high end for the grade by PSA. The scans surely don't show it, and my scans posted on the forum are better than most on ebay...
