Wax on front of 1970's card

I opened a very nice wax pack of 1977 Topps baseball. The cards are centered and have sharp corners. However, a Tom Seaver has the wax on the front of the card, otherwise it is a beautiful card. Can the wax be removed and still leave the card suitable for grading? This could be a (9) if it has no wax.

Well, I always try to rub the gum/wax off with a paper towel or something.

A man's dress sock or a woman's nylon will clean it all up and leave the gloss.

Used dryer sheet works the best.

Carbamide peroxide and cheese cloth , not to be confused with hydrogen peroxide and just cheese .

Nylon without a doubt! CLEAN wipeoff with no abrasion what so ever.

    That is card doctoring.

I personally use, with great success, a very soft and fine baby cloth.

    220 sandpaper works best.

  • I used my wife's panties. Seriously. '74 Staubach from one of those Halloween packs. Came back PSA 9.

Try to avoid the bacon strip, though.

Whatever you do never use a paper towel. To abrasive.

I never have done it, but I have seen a guy use lighter fluid or acetone and a nylon. If I was to do it, I'd try the used dryer thingy.

  • Good question, but not sure what they do about that wax. Cards from back then are always good to get good centered, so congrats on those image

    I never attempted this method . . .

Do I dip the whole card and then gently bruss the wax off ,

    or do I,

just wipe a little on with the wire brush ?
  • Brillo/SOS pad should do the trick also.

I generally use a scissors and simply cut off the affected area. I've never failed to remove the wax using this approach!

Chicks are not supposed to have bacon strips.

Use a pair of nylons. Nice and smooth, it'll get rid of the wax and shine up the gloss.

    Forget all the other advice.

But make sure you tell your wife what you're doing with those nylons. I forgot to tell mine, she found the nylons and thought me or my son were pervs.

I stand by my advice about using a scissors. image
  • use a light dab of goo gone it is sold in hardware stores. perfect for your personal collection. not to resell.

not sure however how/if psa will grade it if sent in.
In the USA all men are created equal but some are more equal than others....
  • cotton handkerchief or undershirt always works well for me

I've always used a womans Nylon, you can press real hard and it does no damage. I've been doing it to get wax off my hockey cards for years.
