  • Ive used it several times with good results. You can search by grade. Check the sellers shipping rates as some are a lot cheaper than others. Also some sellers offer discounts based on how much you spend. Like the others said, you are buying sight unseen so keep that in mind if you are ordering older cards.

Modern is pretty good, vintage is a crap shoot. Dont buy from Stingray on there he HORRIBLY overgrades. And no, it is not the Stingray from these boards.

  • I have bought from over 20 different dealers on there. I haven't bought any older cards though.
    Most ship very quickly.
  • I have purchased cards from it with no problem. It is likely the cheapest-easiest way to purchase say every Bret Saberhagen Topps issue card. Condition may very a lot like anytime when buying raw.

Raw: Tony Gonzalez (low #'d cards, and especially 1/1's) and Steve Young.

Also stay away from seller jwholcar. Never sent my cards, never responded to follow-ups.

Otherwise I've had good luck picking up singles needed to fill sets.
  • No problems here. 10 or so transactions.

I've done over 40 transactions, and I have only had 1 problem so far. He said he shipped a 1963 common, but I haven't received it. It's been well over a month. I guess I need to contact him again.

  • I bought 1978 Topps Andre Dawson few weeks ago. The card are sharp probably PSA 9 in my opinion. I will buy from sportlots from now on see how it goes.

I've been happy. I've used Sportlots to fill sets and to pick up odd-ball cards of players I like to collect. Sometimes I'll buy in bulk looking for gradable modern cards. I'm usually satisfied and have gotten a bunch of nice 9s and 10s back from PSA for my registry sets.

However, be warned, sometimes you will truly get NM (as in, PSA 7) quality stuff, or worse.

  • I've done dozens of transactions there. I'm starting to believe that you should stick to the blue star sellers, especially when dealing with modern stuff. I did two modern transactions this past week and both sellers sent wrong cards as part of the order. Both are incredibly slow to respond to email, if at all. With modern, I really feel like I'm dealing with 20 year old kids who know zippo about business and professionalism.

On vintage, you'll run into some people who are awful. Most, however, are pretty good. I've kept logs for myself to show what I bought from which seller, how well the cards were compared to what was advertised, and how the seller handled any problems, if there were any. The good sellers head off problems ahead of time by sending refunds with your shipment for cards in less-than-advertised conditions. If my memory is right, I've had two sellers who were just nowhere close to the condition advertised (i.e. ex-mint received full of major creases) and who wouldn't respond to any follow-up emails.

If you're going to use Sportlots on a regular basis, do some small orders and keep track of which sellers come through for you. Then stick to them.
