<< <i>if you submit it enough times, of course it will get the bump $$$$$$$$ >>
I wonder since it is already slabbed if PSA will keep track of the cert numbers for cards that do not get the bump. That way they can not contradict themselves.
I got the card from someone who upgraded to a PSA 8. He told me this card actually looked better than the PSA 8 he got.
Though it's a wonderful card.... (I'm a big fan of Clemente)...... you are looking for honest opinion here..... It looks as if the upper corners especially the left corner is worn a bit. For this reason I think it wouldn't get the bump..... now this could be scan blur.... but if not.... I think they mentioned, cards that are well centered and just missed the other qualifications of the PSA 8 grade will be the one's that get the half point bump. Still like this card though.....
That said with so many cards we see that look like they should have never received the grade they received.... you just never can really say either way. It would appear the person indicating that "if you submit it enough times it will get the grade your looking for" may not be far from the truth.... lol. How much time and effort and money do you want to put into this in order to get a half point bump? I think if you were selling this card..... the fact that it's a 7 vs. 7.5 may not make that much difference..... sometimes it's the players star power that gets you the extra money your looking for? Worked for me on a PSA 6 Hank Aaron 1954 Topps.... I received PSA 7 SMR value when I sold it!
Best of luck with whatever decision you make with the Clemente!
nice card, I would say it has a 1 out 3 chance getting the bump. plus I believe you will have to submit at express level 35.00 or super express 60.00. I say go to the casino and put a 100.00 on black and let the wheel spin.
Don't even try to submit at express level. Customer Service told me they will be checking the declared values closely. Super express level for the Clemente. To submit it at the express level and say the declared value is $1900 would make to much sense. Full tier price for declared values. I posted about this before, they do not want chump change to review the cards. This is a much more costly process for the collector and an easier process for the graders. I do have a question that scares me a little. Some of us intend on holding on to our vintage star cards for a long time. What happens to the whole process when PSA is no longer. This will happen-every good thing comes to an end at some point. What happens if it is in 5 years? Mickey71
Beautiful card. If centering is within standards for the bump I feel it has a good chance. You may want to wait until you want to sell to send it in. Soon we will see cards that have gotten the bump and perhaps cards that did not. At that time many will have a better idea of what to send in.
I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.
Thanks for all the input. I guess I will not send it in. I still think the corners are fine for a 7. If they were better the card would be an 8. The side to side centering is what I think would prevent this card from the bump.
<< <i>Centering and top left makes it a tough call, either way that is a very nice card. Im sure you are proud to own it as a 7 right! >>
So basically my kid won't be able to go to college, but at least I'll have a set where the three most expensive cards are of a player I despise ~ CDsNuts
Actually the centering for that card is pretty nice. The 55 Clemente is notorious for poor centering, with that said, and if I had it in hand (so I could see the corners) and if they are ok like you say i would take the shot.
I can't tell if that corner is bad from 1000 miles away. Never have been able to. Unless the scan is crisp and clear.
The centering also looks worse then it is because the card has shifted from r/l.
What is the price difference between a 7 and an 8? 2800.00? Clemente's are a very desirable card, they have a strong following. If it was mine I'd give it a shot. (As long as the corners are strong)

I agree with Steve that the 55 Clemente is notorious for bad centering. The PSA graders might take that in consideration when judging your card. That being said I think I would pass on submitting the card. I think this is a nice 7 though.

I would try it.

On my first sub for the bumps, I am going to send
ONLY near-perfectly centered cards.
As time passes and we get more info/experience,
it may be worthwhile to get more agressive; not
out of the gate, though.
