Help with Negro Leagues Autographs

I was at a card show in KC about 15 years ago, a bunch of Negro Leagues players were there signing autos, including Buck O'Neil. During the show my BIL tracked me down and gave me this Cubs paystub signed on one side by Buck O'Neil, and on the other side by a few others.

Anybody have an idea who the others are?

I blocked out personal info on the paycheck stub, probably a groundskeeper.
My BIL doesn't remember giving me the item, so he was probably drunk.

  • The first one is the SHOULD BE HOFer Buck O'Neil...but you probably already figured that out. Sorry I can't help on the others.

i am not sure who they are yet, iwll look at ym book tomorrow and see if i can find out anything, 15 years ago, 99% chance they are all dead by now, i dont recongnize any of the sigs with the ones ive been getting ttm,i might have em in some of my old stuff in binders though-sweet pickup
  • The HOF snub of Buck O'Neil by the 12 member committee in Feb 2006 is inexcusable. Nine votes were required, Buck fell one short. The vote was held as a last chance for Negro Leaguers to gain admittance to the HOF. Minnie Minosa also deserved to get in. A commisioner with guts could do a lot in this area, bully pulpit and all that, but Bud Selig and guts are not often used in the same sentence.

In KC, Buck was an institution. He never had an unkind word, and you could see him around town in KC and approach him. A stop at the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum in KC is a must.

he'll make it next time,,they have an award named after him at hall and he got medal of freedom-highest medal a civie can get in the u.s.a
  • A bit OT, but are there actual cards from the Negro Leagues? I figure there are reprints somewhere, but did any company make any back when the Leagues were actually going?
Atlanta Braves, Charlotte Hornets, Shawn Kemp, Dale Murphy, and Bobby Engram.

I would be looking for spanish league player names. O'Niel played in the mexican league and cuban league and those names have spanish elements

    luis mata?
    ramos
    juan
    ricardo

I don't have any idea but at least it's a place to start. I don't think they're negro league names.

  • Those other autographs are modern players. Most if not all Negro Leaguers did NOT sign by their uniform number. Do you remember the other side being signed by negro leaguers?

jimq is right. P.R. probably stands for Puerto Rico.
  • Thanks for all your help. I didn't obtain these sigs myself, but I was at the show, even talked to Buck for a while.
There were other Negro Leaguers there, but there could have been some modern guys too.
I will take this item to the Negro Leagues Museum in KC and maybe they can tell me somthing about it.
I did notice the latino names, the old Mexican Leagues may be a good place to check.
