Postage scale recommendations... and shipping service

Okay, I'm tired of standing in line at the Post Office. Any recommendations on a postal scale? Do you guys use Paypal shipping or go to usps.com and print from there? I see you get free del. confirmation when you use Paypal shipping.

We bought a cheap digital scale and use paypal shipping with the free delivery confirmation. I have several people on my mail route who do plenty of ebaying. They print their own postage and either leave the outgoing packages in the mailbox for me to pick up or else leave me a note to stop at the house and pick them up. They never have to go to the post office and stand in line.

I use paypal, since USPS has a monthly fee on top of the actual postage. I believe there is a fee of $0.17 for delivery confirmation that automatically tacked on to the cost on postage when using paypal.

When you do your labeling at home you can walk into the Post Office and just get a tellers attention hand it over the counter and out you go. Never wait in a line again!

Unless you ship something registered or insured for over $500 US then back in line you go

I found a digital Scale at Radio Shack for under $10 bucks. I dont know if they still have them or not, That was a clearance price, You may want to check E-bay for some.

  • Okay, I just bought a digital postal scale from Wal-Mart for $22.00. The lady at the post office said I can mail anything that's not over 13 ounces using the usps.com labels. I just mailed 5 PSA cards in a bubble mailer and it was 8.1 ounces. So, you have to pay to use the usps.com labels above and beyond the normal postage?

You can mail stuff larger than 13 ounces using those prepaid postage items as well. You just can't use plain old postage stamps. I'm guessing it is due to some accountability concerns if you just put on stamps.

The 13 ounces was a kneejerk reaction to 9/11. Originally we weren't allowed to pick up any parcels at all on our routes, now there's only a few things that will trigger a response. Over 13 oz with stamps is one of those things.
