5 day special is not guaranteed? Today is 10 business day.

So if they're late on the 5 day special (approximately 5 days per special), I just have to suck it up? Sent 11 cards for $13/5 days. Logged 1/15, so I figured today 1/22 would have poppage, and I also gave them MLK day off.

The day logged doesn't count. You've got the 16,17,18, Monday was a holiday, 22,23 is the 5th day, if it pops on the 24th you're on time.

Always looking for Topps Salesman Samples, pre '51 unopened packs, E90-2, E91a, N690 Kalamazoo Bats, and T204 Square Frame Ramly's

  • wait T if u said the 23rd is the 5th day then if the grade pop on the 24th why would it be on time?

i'm in the same boat, submission got logged on the 15th...i called them yesterday monday and they told me it counts as 1 business day but no grades popped today image. hopefully tomorrow. i hope they don't go all conservative with the half grade looming.

also i've sent in a few "approx. 5 business days b4"...some pop right on the 5th business day but i've had another that took 11 business days. i called them up and they said it's approx. 5 days so they couldn't do anything else.

Today will be day 9 for me as I have a $13/5 day special of only 8 cards that was logged in 1/10, so get in line boys. Also, they were open for business Monday (MLK day).

I was told in Houston they are "weeks" behind on the "5 day special". The rep said they were so far behind she wondered why they keep running the special.

Orders are not even 'approximate' anymore they are now 'estimated'.

They did something similar over on the PCGS side and turn arounds stayed the same or in some cases got better.

    Correct.

They no longer offer "guaranteed" turnaround times any longer.

I think the only guaranteed turn arounds would be for the super duper 1 day express service?

I could be mistaken but I think everything is now estimated with zero guarantees.

  • By now, at least this is how I plan for it, you should never assume any special is going to be on time. If you need them in a certain time, I would think the chances would be better if you paid a little extra for the regular service.

    yeah this rough.. no doubt..
just logging them in is taking 2 weeks

if I knew it was going to tak this long I would have just included them in my bulk sub

estimated times is bad for business IMO

It just occured to me while reading this thread (Also have a order logged in on the 15th) that if any of us ran say for instance our EBAY accounts like this we would have quite a large amount of Neutral/Negative feedback despite the quality of our product. This is why regardless of what we think about other grading companies(SGC/Beckett/GAI) we really do need them competing for our business. It keeps them all on their toes. IMO
  • The guarantees mean nothing unless they are backed up financially (i.e. if PSA refunded your fees or gave you a voucher for a free submission if your order was late). Right now, PSA has very little financial incentive to speed up service since their customers are not defecting over it.
  • RonBurgundyRonBurgundy Posts: 5,491 ✭✭✭
The last sentence in the previous post says it all.

By the way, if you think that turnaround times don't matter to people, I had someone in Houston this weekend tell me they had sent in a bunch of Tony Romo cards and other football cards for grading at the end of August. They got them back in late December when football season was almost over and now have to sit on them to sell them when the time is right, i.e., during football season.

Changing these turnaround times to "estimated" is pretty poor customer treatment. Why bother having a number attached to turnaround times at all? To fool the masses who don't know any better?

Well that stinks! I should of just saved my money.
Beckett has a special that ends on 1/31 $10 for 5 business days,
    and that's guaranteed.

considering I just lost my job this morning.. it would be nice to have my 2 subs so I could liquidate it..
  • BoopottsBoopotts Posts: 6,784 ✭✭
Card grading must be the only business in the history of human enterprise that sees an inverse correlation between the value of the service and the quantity of the service demanded. When a random PSA 10 of a 1990's card picturing a star player sold for $25 you could get your sub in and out of Newport Beach in two weeks. Now that the prices of virtually all graded cards has deflated to the point where its hardly even worth submitting the PSA staff has a backlog of orders that will (apparently) take months to completely process.

I was told in Houston they are "weeks" behind on the "5 day special". The rep said they were so far behind she wondered why they keep running the special.

This really doesn't make any sense. I mean, at least for me, they cranked out the $5 special orders very fast, even the ones I submitted at the end of the month. Yet the 5 day special I submitted stilll hasn't been completed and is very overdue. Are these $13 specials going to different graders? If they had a backlog of 5 day specials, why didn't they grade them instead of the $5 specials?

I've just kinda looked at it like I received the service I paid for, only backwards, but it still doesn't make sense to me.

and everyone is having issues right now and certainly not hiring...
  • Funny how they change the rules in the middle of the game?????

Must be trying to up that BBB rating image
  • I've got a bulk submission that was logged 11/15/07....I wonder if they will honor their guarentee for this one?
  • If they keep doing it this way than we will see a lot more of this............

  • Time to try out the other grading companies! I've started to send some stuff to SGC and their turnarounds have been fantastic! Two 20 day subs I sent were done in under 15 days and back to me by day #20! Now that is customer service! With psa adopting a new grading schedule comparable to SGC's grading scale I expect many more collectors to start sending their cards to Beckett, SGC, BVG, etc.. PSA has turned me off with their long turnarounds, inconsistent grades, and the new grading scale has a lot to be desired with no 9.5 which will help the high end registry sets!! Just my thoughts!

  • omg hey eagleeyekid has you submission popped yet? i noticed urs got submitted on 1/15 like mine also...we're going on day 9 and still nothing.

i was hoping to get the submission back before this half grade nonsense...as i think they'd be stricter just before the grading change. this is ridiculous and will be my last submission to psa. it's not like psa know how to grade prewar tobacco and caramel cards anyways with the blatant trim jobs i see everyday. sucks that sgc is hella tough on the cards also...meh. /end rant image

As of today....no poppage. As of today, it is 9 business day. I called on Friday and was told by the rep that it's about 8 - 10 business day, and there wasn't a whole lot he can do. So I guess the 8 - 10 bus. day is the average. We'll see if it comes to business day # 11.
  • Ridiculous! I'll update the thread if mine pops...submission entered 1/15 and i was hoping i'd pop early like last mon or tues image

Best of luck in finding a new job. It is best to keep a positive attitude and realize all things will pass. What doesn't kill you can only make you stronger.

Not to be a downer, but I still don't think the fallout is over yet in the sub-prime lending world, so it may make sense to find a new line of work/industry.

Large financial institutions (ie MET, GE, AIM) will not be equity players for at least another 6 months.

And I'm not talking about mom & pop shops; big boys with portfolios in the billions.

edit: yeah, i know, kinda late edit but i just noticed my error.

Today is business day # 10. I'm never going to use the $13/approx. 5 business day special ever again. This is a total waste of time and money. I could of just incorporated in an upcoming bulk order. I could of used it on BGS for their $10/5 business day guaranteed which ends on 1/31/08. Oh well....never again.

  • Maybe they will have a new price structure for grading as well, approximately $3 - $30 depending on how much you want to pay

That's a pretty bad analogy. PSA is providing a service that scrutinizes your card under many different levels in order to, as close as possible, provide you with value and protection on your card. And they accept huge submissions of cards that one should expect would take some time to complete.

You accept payment and ship an item on ebay.

Not much of a comparison, give them at least some credit.

  • Man, people still complain about the specials. Hey, try assuming that you're NOT going to get them back in 45 days (or 5 days, or whatever the special states). You should be much happier. Or quit being cheapskates and shell out the extra dough for a regular service with a faster ESTIMATED turnaround. People act like the freakin' world is supposed to be perfect. You do know that even the regular services say "estimated" for turnaround right? I can't figure out all the surprise on the turnaround time on specials knowing that fact. You also know that these boards would have around one quarter of the threads it has now, if all of the complaints were taken off.

Sorry for the rant, but someone's gotta try and make you realize that the world ain't fair (although if people complain so much about this, there shouldn't be a damn thing wrong with the rest of their lives, their families lives, their communities lives, etc. otherwise I'm pretty sure they should have something more worthy to complain about).

And I do realize that these boards are here as much for you to voice your opinions, as they are for me, which is why I just posted what I did.

Sent a 4 card sub on 1/25. Received 1/29. Logged in 1/29. Quick log in, and it's only 4 cards so I hope I don't have to wait 8+ days for the grades.
  • its really $2 off the Regular service level (cards under $500) which is normally $15 in 10 business days...

so they should just say $13 /10 day guaranteed....
  • hey guys,

my grades finally popped this morning on a 5 card sub. date entered 1/15. eagleeye you should expect yours today also i guess...good luck!
