What a joke ('52 Mantle 9)

The card on today's paper almost looks real...almost.

eBay Mantle Scammer
"My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. Our childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When we were insolent we were placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds - pretty standard really."

  • I really can't see why its fake? Is it fake? If so, how? How can you tell?

You can tell by the looks of the card that it's fake. Plus a zero feedback bidder lists a card like that for only 3 days??? And the image over the newspaper is a total Photoshop job.

  • Why hasen't anybody reported this auction? Can't ebay tell if something is photoshoped or not? Both seller and buyer are greedy if you ask me, lol. Sure, the seller is 100% at fault, if it is indeed a fake, but the buyer sure must be very greedy to fall for it! image

I reported the auction this morning. Obviously eBay hasn;t taken action yet.

The thing that's really got me scratching my head (well one of the things) is that this auction keeps getting bumped back to the top of recently listed cards. VERY weird.

I think thats when they pay like 40 bucks or something to make their item show up at the top of the page.

The cert # shows this card in the James White collection, Seems like it would have provenance listed on the holder if it was listed in the verification as such.

  • And i'm surprised that out of the million collector's here, that nobody has checked it out yet image

If you type in the Certification number on PSA's website, it says:

    Year: 1952
    Brand: TOPPS
    Player: MICKEY MANTLE
    Variety: JAMES WHITE COLLECTION
    Grade: 9

Does anyone know who James White?
