Un-Freakin-Believable!!!

Unfreakinbelievable!! Just out of curiosity, I checked out www.tvguide.com for FOX's programming guide for February 3, 2008. Here it is:

1. 7:00 a.m. - Super Bowl Sunday FOX News Special
2. 9:00 a.m. - Road to the Super Bowl
3. 10:00 a.m. - Inside the Rings with Troy Aikman
4. 10:30 a.m. - Howie Long's Tough Guys Super Bowl Edition
5. 11:00 a.m. - Super Bowl Sunday Pregame Show
6. 3:00 p.m. - Super Bowl XLII
7. 6:30 p.m. - Super Bowl Postgame Show
8. 7:00 p.m. - To Be Announced

So if I read that correctly, FOX is devoting at least TWELVE (12) hours of programming for a 3 1/2 hour football game. Unbelieveable. I'd give it a couple of years and then the Super Bowl programming will start immediately after the contestants are decided.

The Super Bowl. A football game to determine the champion of professional football for a given year. But in reality, the Super Bowl is really about EVERYTHING but the game. It's about the hype, the media, the commercials, the half-time show, corporate America, you name it. If corporate America could get 50 million Americans to watch television snow for three (3) hours, they would do it in a heartbeat.

    Last week, shares of some companies were actually
    being rewarded/punished based, in part, on their decisions
    regarding whether or not to run SB commercials.

    After this week is over, I have a feeling that Americans
    will need the escapism that the SB offers; and, our
    corporations will be only to pleased to profit from the
    peasants' artificial respite.

    Don't forget - writer's strike. Wouldn't be at all surprised if they wanted to replay the whole game telecast.

    I saw that too.

    I tune in exactly 15 minutes before kickoff. I want to see the game, not the pre-game hype, commercials, expert analysis, etc...
    It's bad enough the halftime show is now nearly 30 minutes. With performers that are either washed up or are rapping out something you can't understand.

    How I wish it was 1970 again..........

    All I know is that since my team (the 49ers) won't be in the game, I'll be cruising Ebay looking to pick up some bargains....

    I'm loving the twelve hours of coverage, even if my team didn't make it. Talk about great timing in getting my DVR!

    12 hours that you can.... sleep in, or go to brunch, go shopping, go to the movies.... get your anti-depressants refilled (since the stock market is going down the toilet this week) buy some crack, smoke some crack, make some crack. whatever. just dont give 12 hours to FOX lol.

    I know. It is going to get really ugly, really soon. Asia is tanking again as we speak. Save up some cash, b/c there are going to be a lot of bargains to be had, as we ride this out.

    That is a lot of coverage but I think you also have to realize what day it is, Sunday. Sunday has always had the worst daytime lineup....I will take 12 Super Bowl pregame shows over a teen movie or paid programming.

    Still beats the heck out of that "Ja Rule with Ashanti" garbage from a few years back in the NFC Champioinship, although TP is a little TOO old school for most

    Well, with my wife's Patriots in it this year, at least we have a reason to have a nice Super Bowl party (just the two of us though). You know, actually have a team to root for? Why can't Kentucky get a major league club of some sort (maybe the Rays could move to Louisville?)? I'd almost take an NHL team at this point, and I never gave a **** about hockey... image

    You know why Iowa can't get a professional franchise?

    Because then Minnesota would want one too!!!

    Oh we have professional franchises in Louisville and Lexington (and nearby Evansville, IN) for baseball. It's getting a major league club (MLB/NFL/NBA) that's the challenge.
